More Problems

I wouldn't say it's the loopback cables, all though having that many is bound to decrease the quality of the output because as far as I know those loopback cables carry analogue signals.

If you've got all the latest drivers for all things concerned and you're still getting the problems I'd advise running without the mpeg decoder card if your PC can hack it. I presume the reason you bought the decoder card was because it couldn't handle mpeg decompression unaided so that option might be out the window.

It doesn't sound like an IRQ conflict but it won't do any harm to move the cards around 'til they aren't sharing IRQs.

Not much use to you I think, but at least it bumped it up the list so someone else might see it smile.gif

cheers Xeno.. I just tried disabling the card in device manager and the V2's are now running without the error, although I'm still getting mangled text in the V2's properties window.

Seems like some kinda resource conflict but device manager isn't reporting anything

All the PCI cards are Creative (V2, DVD, SbLive) so I doubt it's incompatability..

Ok, I've just installed a Creative Encore Dxr3 PCI DVD decompressor card along with the 8X drive.. The problem is now I'm having troulbe getting my Voodoo 2 SLI setup to function at all! Anything that tries to access the V2 crashes with this error -

'blah caused an invalid page fault in
    module 3DFX32V2.DLL at 015f:baa17b23.

    Registers:
    EAX=00400000 CS=015f EIP=baa17b23 EFLGS=00010206

There's some serious loopbacking going on.. like, you use a loopback for the V2 and the PCI DVD decompression card so the monitor is plugged into a DVD card, which in turn is plugged into the V2's, which in turn loops through an AGP 4mb graphics card.

No idea what's causing the problem, everthing was fine before I installed the DVD card.

It seems like a software prob maybe? When I click 'system information' in display options for the V2 it returns garbled text.

    Drivers:

    Creative V2 12Mb - Creative V2 Dx6.
    Win98 - Directx 8.

    Any ideas?

Its been a while but if I remember rightly V2's don't use IRQ's. Could be a memory range conflict or DirectX comflict (did you update it when installing the new software?)

    V2's don't use IRQ's seemingly..

Here are the memory ranges and IRQ's for my PCI devices:

DVD Card: IRQ 3, Mem Range - 04000000 to 040FFFFF

    V2(1): IRQ none, Mem Range - E6000000 to E6FFFFFF

    V2(2): IRQ none, Mem Range - E7000000 to E7FFFFFF

    Sblive: IRQ 3, Mem Range - 1000 to 101F

As mentioned in my first post, DirectX 8 is installed.

This is a real pain. I can get the V2's working when I disable the DVD card, but I'm screwed if I want to use them both simultaneously.

I know it's installed now, just curious if it was on before you added the card.

Anyway, does this happen in Opengl also?

I can't remember the order in which I installed everything. I'd previously formatted the drive so it could have been before or after..

It happens with OpenGL, Glide and DirectDraw.. Basically everything that tries to access the V2. Even when I click on the DXinfo tool I get the same error as above.. I've tried re-installing everything to no avail... The V2's work as normal once I disable the DVD card, but the text in the info panel is still corrupt
