What do you do if you have a problem working with one of your coworkers?

Tell your boss, or team/project leader. I wouldn't take that step up to higher management yet.

Most personel/HR departments have a policy to deal with this sort of thing, but I consider talking to your boss the first step. They can usually advise on what to do next. Unless your boss is the problem coworker :)

Depends what type of problem you are having with them...

Most work colleagues that annoy people tend to be idiots who annoy people without even knowing it. The best way to sort this out is just avoid them and tell them every now and again to push off. They will soon get the hint...

However some are a bit more serious and this is usually in the form of bullying or threatening behaviour, if this is the case, your boss or team leader is a good step, however if the need is required, lodge an official complaint with HR, they are legally required to investigate these and take appropriate actions.

It usually has to be put on that persons permanent record if a complaint of this nature is made against them.

    Good luck...

    Thanks for the replies

Hmmm yeah, it's nothing that major, just finding it hard to deal with a person. Not really annoying, just really difficult to deal with.

I don't really want it to go to my boss or management, I think I'll try to ignore the person or whatever.
I'll see how it goes anyway.

    thanks again!

    talk to your direct boss.
    most direct way.
have a list of thnigs ready that you have against the person.
if you hum and haw when they ask what the problem is you look like a twat :)
find out if other people have the same problem with this person.
if there is a group of people you could always just round up a posse and lynch em, but higher management dont like this as it take a lot of money to train new people in.....

    Thanks again!

I don't really think there's anything I could say to my boss.

It's just a personality clash really is what it boils down to.
Maybe I could just ask to be assigned to different projects from now on or something if it's possible, or would that make me look like I'm being awkward?

It's not a big deal, but you know when someone get's on your nerves, they *really* get on your nerves!

Rounding up a posse sounds nice but I don't think it's the most diplomatic solution is it? :)

When the person goes off for lunch, download porn from their machine, email the boss from their email account, grab them by the nuts, rip them off and put them in their pocket etc etc, if that fails to get rid of him, speak to your manager

I had a fella give me dogs abuse about being form the North, he was 35 or so, I was 20ish were in the pub one night and he made a big joke about me in front of most the people, he went for a p*ss, and when he was standing at the urinal I slapped him in the back of the head and he head butted the wall in front of him..... never opened his mouth to me again.... not a very diplomatic way to solve your problems, but hey should a 35 year old manager pick on the new lad......

nice way to deal with it PaddyC..

A mate of mine had a similar problem with a guy he worked with.. the usual crap, this guy mouthing off at him, throwing his weight around and basically being a complete arsehole the whole time..

So my mate caught yer man outside work one day when most were gone home, pinned him to the wall, didnt do much to him, just basically told him if he opened his mouth again he would kick his head in..

At first I thought it might be abit heavy handed and he was lucky enough to not have been pulled in by the manager about it but it apparently worked and yer man never even looked in his direction again...

Depends on the person who's causing the hassle... if they are of a violent temperament (sp?) then this kind of confontation might backfire.. so ya have to be careful..
