I'm going to paint my second ;good' case in the nexxt 2weeks. have the belts for teh belt sander, have to buy undercoat and topcoat and few tins of clear coat.
A buffer/polisher for the rubbing compound would be ncie too, but they look very expensive.
Still trying to desside on a window, logo/motif/stencil or plain sides.

Have a good idea if the desgin, allthough when I first mentioned it a certain person went off and blatently plaguerised it as that person is know to do. Silly me.

That's how not to do it.
    Guy didn't evensand it.
Chassis turned out ok, and i'm thinking of doing something similar, but he shouldn've prepared more.
And he didn't touch his drives..tut-tut

Would nearly make me want to write my own guide.....hmmm :)

Yeah, I just used clear coat.

i'll really try and make a proper go of documenting this time round.
    Full thing.

I want to put a design on the front, and I need to do masking.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get the tape straight?

Also, what material is best to use for stenciling?

I'd be using spray paint and I don't want it going under the stencil - I want nice sharp clean edges on it.

What colour have you done yours #MEAT#?
I was thinking of red about 2 months ago, with 'Dodge Viper' stripes up the front/side.

Stencils I found are best made from A4 printer acetates which have the added advantage of you being able to print a design on to them which you can cut out.

Yeah, was thinking of getting contact paper (the clear sticky stuff for covering books), and hopefully, if it doesn't tear off the paint, it should be easy enough to take off.
Cutting the design should be easy, and it's cheap too :)

it won't be the Dodge Viper black lines.it be the black flames with red body the front part is black.

    After sanding it down today.
Took 30 mins, still have to work off small patches and around the edges.

Going to paint the chassis too, which will seriously disrupt any gaming over the next week or 3, as her guts will be over the floor. Now might be the perfect time to get those fans and external case mods done now

    Have applied plenty of undercoat.
haven't bothered to take photos this time round *again*.
Will write a proper fully-documented repor for website though.

    That is all.

Have the main coat on, doing stripes as we speak.
    Coming along very nicely.
Important thing is to really take your time.

    Hopefully will have pics soon.
Will be bringing it to GalwayLAN3 too.

Took the masking tape off today to see my handy work on the case cover....not too shoddy at all for a first attempt.
Will put a shítload of tips and mistakes I made in the write-up.

    So far, so good.
Just gotta wait a few days for the paint to harden before applying the clear coat and rubbing compund.

    right better look good

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,815 ✭✭✭✭po0k

Took the mask off the fron and bay covers today.

Not as clean a finish as the top, but then again it was much more complex, trying to wrap the tape round the awkward bits....
Will get out the paint brush and blood red for some touching up.

Have to leave the paint to harden for a while longer.

    Tis sweef though :)

    AARRRGH!!!
    Jean Titswilliger!
While applying clear coat to the sides, I left them standing upright.
Gooey clear coat has run downt he side in big waves.
Threw it on it's side, got out the fine sand paper and lightly rubbed off as mcuh of the wet clear coat that I could.
Not looking too great on one side, but that'll be hidden generally anywyas.
The 'window' side (if I ever get around to it) is pretty much ok.

    Really need pics

    SHE'S FINISHED! (almost)

I've the pics in this little Advanced photo system thingy in my hand.
will have them developped on monday, going to chillies on Tuesday, will hopefully post them Wedensday eveing.

The stroppy gril casued me unknown heartache, what with clear coat running, paint spraying onto white stripes, linesnot being perfectly alligned and the masking tape not leaving a sharp line in some places.
BUT - I think it looks quite good.
I'm applying a few coats of the rubbing compoundnow to firm in and tighten/toughen the paint and clearcoat.
next job on the agenda is a discreet IR winamp mod in the power button/case badge and a 120mm/92mm fan in the front witha rheostat at the abck to control speed.
