I was totally astouded to see that an Irish isp supports this, see this post on the Ireland Offline Board.
Had a quick look at the Unison website and it appears to be a free signup deal too. On their signup page they ask about what modem you are using which perhaps means you will get the appropriate number for this on completion.

Does anyone know of a modem available here that supports this protocol?

I think there is an external Zoom V.92 modem available in Ireland. Don't know about pricing or where to get it.

It appears that if you have a modem that uses a Lucent chipset then you are in luck (wheehee!!, i own several)Found this website that has instructions on updating Lucent modems to v92 which i'm gonna try later.
Hey Bard (if you are reading this)..maybe you wont even need s11=50 anymore, apparently v92 modems connect twice as fast wink.gif

Any software modem can be easily upgraded to V.92 as long as the manufacturer releases a new driver for it.

There is no firmware on a software/winmodem. the "firmware" is built into the driver. So for lucent chipset modems especially there are new drivers with the updated firmware available and there has been for some time.

Other manufacturers will hopefully follow suit.

This was to a Unison account i made earlier.

Nice idea while it lasted , even added +MS=V92 as an extra initialisation string, but no go.

Maybe i missed something , but it appears that Ireland is without V.92 after all. frown.gif

most v.90 modems can b upgraded 2 v.92 with a firmware upgrade .have a look at the manafactures site .but v.92 only increases d/l speeds margenly and upload speed by a bit .

True irishguy, but if you have a winmodem then that shouldnt need a firmware update, as can be seen from my post above
    <font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">ati3
    ZOOM V.92 Data+Fax+Voice Modem Version 8.02-A Z207

    </font>
hyperterminal now reports that it is indeed v.92 cabable.
Raw download speed shouldnt be increased at all but upload speed through pcm shoud be dramtically increased to 48k

hmm i read that v92 was hardware so you couldn't get it by upgrading drivers..

i also heard it makes you ping to games server's, 100 - 130 ping..

    but then again rumors :/

Posted modem log etc to Nets/Comms v92 And Unison topic, i should have started this topic there in retrospect--> if anyone wants to respond to this topic please do so there.

VacilatoR as to v92 being hardware, yes thats true in a lot of cases as i imagine a lot of gamers use hardware modems, but not afaik for software modems aka "Win Modems"
