Welcome, finally, to the land of Those with Sense. It's quite a lot of fun here.

Check the east end of Talbot St. for a few shops that would most likely sell DC games (along with Saturn, MD, SNES and NES games).

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,155 ✭✭✭Quigs Snr

Still my current fav nextgen console.

The gameshop you want is gamezone under the bridge on Talbot street, aside from that game often has loads of barginbin games. I also saw some very cheap ones in liffey valley the other night.

You are looking for the following.

Metropolis Street Racer, Ferrari 355, Jet Set Radio, Quake 3, Shenmue, Soul Caliber, Resident Evil Code Veronica, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Headhunter, crazy taxi and Virtual Tennis.

There are loads more, but these are my favourite ones (and mostly the magazines favourites) that I can think of off the top of my head.

Until quite recently, some GAME shops stocked a healthy selection of DC stuff. But not for a few weeks now :(

You'll find stuff in the 2nd hand buckets though. It's really a case of "what you see is what you get".

I'm still convinced I saw "half-life" for DC once in GAME, despite the fact that everyone says it was never released.

Half-Life was not available commercially for the Dreamcast. Work was halted on a DC version shortly before it was finished - if you look around hard enough on the interweb you can dig up a beta version of it, but it definitely didn't go to retail.

Rasta, how much for Headhunter ?

and it was released on dc i've heard from loads of ppl and now lemming says so!

Oh right, well your friends obviously know WAAAAAAAAY better than Vivendi, the people who would have been PUBLISHING the damn thing, and whose European head of Sales I interviewed last year about it's cancellation.... But I guess they were just making that all up, yeah?

(It did come out on PS2, perhaps this is what's confusing you.)

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,155 ✭✭✭Quigs Snr

Shinji, a lot of people probably think it was released because in february last year there were pre-release copies of it available on the shelves, well not pre-release, but they had half life boxes with pre-book now written on them for a few weeks (I did pre-book and can confirm that they did not appear), however it was only cancelled a couple of weeks before it was due so all the marketing bumph was out. This may have confused some people whco subsequently thought that they saw half life on DC on the shelves in shops, which they did.

The funny thing is that a guide for HL on DC came out ! It was still for sale around christmas last in liffey valley !

shinji u gotta stop taking things so seriously
why do u hate the x-box so much,im begining to think your tha dude who writes for the sunday world game chamber
cause all u seem to do is slag other consoles and kiss sony's arse like every other irish games writer
what happened to that failure of a magazine "the player"

    eh 15 euros for headhunter??
    and shinji relax a bit

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,155 ✭✭✭Quigs Snr

Rasta, it's a deal on headhunter. PM me.

As for someone else getting HL in the north. Fair enough. However, I was working in the UK in the early part of last year and had a deposit on a pre-booked version of half life in Electronics Boutique in London. In march they called me to tell me it was cancelled and I bought MSR instead. So thats unusual. I also was told it was never released by GAME in grafton street in Dublin and Gamesworld in Liffey Street.

If you did get a copy I would be quite interested. I bought Blue Shift on the PC anyway for the extra dreamcast mission. Quite good also.

    so hes talking crap aswell??

Yep. You don't have exclusive license on it, apparently. I think Quigs is correct, the promo boxes probably confused some people into thinking it was out (and of course, it DID come out on the PS2).
why do u hate the x-box so much,im begining to think your tha dude who writes for the sunday world game chamber

Sorry, not me - I don't write for any Irish publications at the moment :)

Oh, and I don't "hate" the Xbox, I just think that of the consoles out there at the moment, it's by far the weakest in terms of software line-up and support. Lots of developers canning Xbox projects at the moment, too.

That said, it had a decent E3 so I guess it might be worth re-assessing for the average buyer come Christmas or early next year. Right now, it's just not a sensible choice as a console though.
what happened to that failure of a magazine "the player"

Dunno, I had nothing to do with it. Wasn't a big fan of it, although I can say right now that pretty much everyone who wrote for it was a far more informed commentator that you are, kiddo. Not to mention a hell of a lot better at writing intelligible English...
