    http://www.dabs.com - 2/5

I've found Dabs to be pretty good for delivery takes about a week, their returns can be a nightmare. I bought 2 x IBM 30GB GXP's (big mistake) both failed within 6 months, took about one month to get each replaced. Eventually they refunded me my money on the hard disks after the 5th replacement! :D Final verdict: I would be hesitant to shop here again.

    http://www.chillblast.co.uk - 4.5/5

Excellent service and fast delivery, these guys phoned me up when they had items out of stock delivery was very fast too. They loose .5 for shipping some wrong items thou, but customer service was good in getting this sorted out.

    http://www.theoverclockingstore.co.uk 5/5

Never had any problems with them, delivery times were reasonable and goods arrived in one piece.

http://www.komplett.ie - The jury is still out on them, but first impressions are very positive, their customer service is excellent and they ALWAYS reply to your emails. Still awaitng my order after one week, but in fairness a number of items are out of stock.

http://www.overclockers.co.uk - 1/5 An absolutle online shopping disaster, can't remeber how many times I phoned them to get my order sorted out, they eventually shipped my order out after 2 weeks and then got the order wrong... I'd only risk them again if I need specialist overclocking gear and nobody else had it.

    Elara

    4.7 / 5

Delivery is 15 Euro in dublin, ordered the new CRW-F1 cdrw on monday, received it on tuesday afternoon. Pretty extensive selection of hardware and great service. Nice sounding receptionist too.....

www.komplett.ie - 5/5. Ordered a DVD & CDR drive off em recently, they were delivered within 36 hours of me clicking 'order'. Everything was what i ordered, and there was nothing missing / broken. Quality service.

Shop down near Georges Street - I'm prolly earning frequent buyer points in there at this point.

    www.backfromthefuture.ie

Rating...4 I guess - has a fairly big rang of 'gadgets' there (inc mirco type cases) but the big thing I like is that they'll order anything for you if they can find a supplier. Ordered my PDA from a supplier in France for me cos they couldn't find any suppliers for it in Ireland or the UK.

www.komplett.ie 5 out of 5. Very fast shipping and very good prices. Cant see my self ordering off any one else.

Elara 5.5 Good selection and fast delivery.

Jaguar Computer Systems 0 out of 5. Very unprofessional to say the least. Managed to spell my name wrong in return email, even tho it was listed on the original email 5 times. This is just sloppy. The lady in question also managed to send me the wrong info about the product I was looking for, in this case, a P4 3.0ghz 800fbs chip, and when I replied to her email, stating again the product I was looking for, I never received an responce.
I will never do business with these clowns and will also make sure to pass on the info to my customers. Way to lose 20,000 potential customers Jaguar :)

Komplett.ie - 5/5 Great prices , great range in most cases and they have helpfull staff.

Elara - 4.5/5 Huge ammount of items on there website - granted alot arent stocked, pretty good prices and service!

ComputerBits - 4.5/5 There good on cases and keyboards and media, put in my first order a few weeks ago and got an e-mail saying they were out of stock in the DVD+R's i ordered and asked if the more expensive ones would do me instead at no extra cost!! That was a really nice touch, most companies would let u wait until there in and send em out then. Ps delivery pretty fast 2.

  • Registered Users Posts: 760 ✭✭✭BoobeR

Out of all listed, in my opinion komplett.ie is the best all round. any time i bought anything from them, absolutely no problems on delivery, also same with peats

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,739 ✭✭✭BigEejit

Komplett.ie - 6 / 5 ... they get the extra point because I got 10 free CD's from them (remember when they brought out their customer service number in Ireland?)

elara.ie - 4.9 / 5 ... good selection, good prices, only lose because they ship things without any extra packaging ... i.e. my Netgear DG814 was shipped in just the Netgear box, with my Name and Address stuck on the side of the box ... I dont like that, they could at least put a little bit of packing on it

marx-computers - 5 / 5 ... not the best selection, but they are fast and they once rang me up when i ordered two similar cables, in case I misordered

peats.ie - 3 / 5 ... most stuff is expensive, sometimes can be a bit slow shipping stuff out

    munstercomputers.com - 3 / 5 .. a bit expensive, p&p can be pricey too

    Komplett.ie - 5 / 5 Simply the best price in ireland.

I would add to the list for memory and graphic cards (radeon only):

www.crucial.com/eu - 5/5 if you are planning to by some crucial memory its cheaper to buy directly from them than to go through komplett. The price of their radeon 9800 pro is also very competitive €388.91 incl VAT last time I checked. Shipping is okay €7 with UPS.

peats.ie - 1/5 I see them like a corner store you only go there when you can't go to tesco, they are way to expensive.
You get a Creative GeForce 4 Titanium 4800 for €387 the price of the crucial radeon 9800 pro! and they charge €9 for shipping against €7 for crucial ( shipping from uk with ups)

And if you do want the geforce Creative GeForce 4 Titanium 4800 komplett sell it for €246.28 that's a €140 difference!
In that case Peats is 57% more expensive than komplett...
And I really don't think having a shop in the middle of Dublin justify that kind of difference.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 277 ✭✭Fabre

About peats again, they are not the most expensive, maplin is, but unlike peats, maplin has an excuse they are a uk based company so basically you get the uk price converted in Euro + conversion rate + shipping.

    So I give maplin 1.1/5

www.Komplett.ie 4.5/5 (they lose 0.5 only cos their range of networking/modding gear not so great)

Can't say enough good things about them - 1st time I bought from them I got a Gainward GF3 500 that turned out to be just a Ti200 (Gainward label their products weirdly) - Anyway, Per, who deals with their Irish Customer support totally sorted me out even though technically, it was my own lookout for not delving deeper into the spec of the card. You can contact Komplett through the community/commercial interaction/komplett section on this very site! (just for those who didn't know...)

    www.scan.co.uk 0/5

Should be called scam. Theur customer service is a nightmare. They even had links to e-mailing their directors, and those rats didn't even reply or pass my query on to anyone else. Had to ring UK during daytime (expensive!) to get sorted - waited over 40 mins to speak to customer service, who would only give me tech support even though I told them I didn't need some Ill-educated fool to tell me my hard drive was DOA - hung up after waiting 1hr 20 mins for tech support - got back on to sales (what a surprise! they answered promptly!) and wouldn't get off the phone 'til I got an RMA number direct from the RMA department for the dodgy IBM hard drive they sold me... Anyway, had a bad case of THE FEAR at this stage, so rang IBM direct and they had me sorted in under 10 minutes. The only way I would buy off scan again would be if I lived down the street from them so I could exchange anything by going in and acting threatening... pack of weasels.

    www.ebuyer.co.uk 4/5

they lose points on delivery charge (flat £25 STR to Ireland - advice: order LOTS) but their prices beat DABS - good for LCD's too, have handy review sections where other users rate the product. Only ordered once off them - this sterling business really makes me vomit though... what look like great prices turn out to be... well, ok, still great prices, but nowhere near as sexy as you first thought... they have a great range though.

have also used marx-computers, itdirect and itbdirect in ireland - all good - IT direct in particular very helpful, but for range and prices I'd totally recommend Komplett first, and Ebuyer if you're gonna buy a LOT of gear...

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,560 ✭✭✭Ivan

    Hmmm...

Everyone seems to have gotten on rosy with Komplett but has anyone returned anything yet? :/

    Komplett 3/5

    Returns is a nightmare imho.

Why should I pay for returning the product when its faulty?
Customer service basically told me everything I tried he added nothing new although I suppose for the average John Dumb he's probably pretty effective.

    CCity 4/5

I've had nothing but good experience with them, but then I ordered through a friend so he probably had to deal with all the grief.

They have extremely cheap prices but you have to have a trade account which is difficult enough.

Maybe a bit slow with returns/repairs & orders.

    Scam 0/5

    'Nuff said.

    Marx-Computers 4.5/5

Bit slow but the lady rang me up to ask if I had entered my credit card incorrectly, which was nice. However, this also means they dont have online credit card facilities which makes me wonder about security...

    Thats about all I've used.

I'd recommend CCity.ie if you can set up a trade only account, other marx-computers if they have what your looking for or finally komplett.ie

I agree that Komplett is top dog, I rate them 5/5. However, last time I bought components to build a system, the didn't have the high speed memory I wanted in stock....so instead I bought the memory from

    www.shop4memory.com

They had what I was looking for in stock (2x1GB) and their prices were cheaper than Komplett. Delivery was free, but I wanted the stuff fast, so was able to pop out and collect the stuff that evening! Excellent staff and very helpfull.

    Komplett: 10/5
    Shop4Memory: 10/5

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,739 ✭✭✭BigEejit

Oh, forgot to mention that i got memory from www.pc-memory-upgrade.co.uk (company is in Kildare) and found them to be very good, quick service, free shipping, top class products at good prices ... I just checked now and they are stocking PC4000 DDR ... saucy price at the moment though ... I'm giving them 5 / 5

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,760 ✭✭✭Col_Loki

Just as a BTW www.shop4memory.com & www.pc-memory-upgrade.co.uk are the same company. Am just putting in my first order now, looks like a very good company!!

    geek.pricegrabber.com 5/5

Cheapest deals around and shipping with any of the companies was great

    www.komplett.ie 5/5

No problems whatsoever with komplett, cheapest in europe most of the time and quick delivery

    www.overclockers.co.uk 4/5

great service, some issues with an order not being shipped quick enough, but was solved quickly when i emailed them

    www.itdirect.ie 0/5

What a joke, their staff know nothing and very dear

www.komplett.ie 4/5 Fast and Cheap Delivery but I found they had a limited selection. I see now they sell stuff that I was looking for a couple of months ago but there is a couple of thing they are missing like more PSU's, they are only selling one type of Antec. I ordered off www.overclockers.co.uk then because of their lack of selection back then, before that I always ordered off Komplett.

www.overclockers.co.uk 4/5 Good Selection and Good Price but the prices are hit with the Sterling exchange rate and Delivery Rates which means it looses its advantage in pricing over komplett. I used them twice because komplett werent stocking what I was looking for (~€1000 of parts at the time) I wasnt disappointed with them but I'd order off Komplett the next time because of improved selection and their elivery cant be beaten

www.shop4memory.com 5/5 They only deal with Memory but they have an excellent selection of DDR/RAMBUS/SD RAM and USB Flash Drives. A fast Delivery service which is FREE to Ireland and UK and very competitive prices.Im giving it 5/5 because even though they dont do anything other than memory they give excellent service and wil help you make a correct selection(compatiblity) if asked.

I'm giving www.komplett.ie a 3/5 for really poor stock and they're inflated delivery pricing with DHL, choosing GLS for cheaper shipping is the worst thing that ever happened to them and I just can't shop there anymore for my own peace of mind, it's gone to the dogs.

www.overclockers.co.uk - 3.5/5 - great stock, excellent customer service, cheap pricing but they slip on their delivery prices to Ireland, forums are a nice bonus there too, plenty of info available and decent offers for products.

www.pc-look.com - 3.5/5 - great stock, great service, cheap pricing, nice high quality photo's of all their product range and what you'll be getting in each pretty box you've ordered right down to the last screw, a nice site and a lot of attention to detail. Delivery isn't too steep, about 15E depending on what you order. Been shopping here a lot lately and they've never let me down, great selection of kit for the modders.

www.elara.ie - 3/5 - good stock, excellent customer service and RMA handling, pricing is a bit steep, delivery is reasonable and speedy depending on method chosen.

www.peats.ie - 2/5 - so so on stock, good customer service and RMA handling, website is a bit poor and the pricing is a bit mad as pointed out by Gerry, they're still dead handy if you have a bit of cash burning a hole in your pocket and need to pick something up quickly while in town so I'll give them 2 for that and customer service but they're quite poor all around especially on the pricing front but it's understandable to an extent...

www.shop4memory.com and www.pc-memory-upgrade.co.uk are both excellent and probably the best going for ram purchases, all my ram in the past three years has been purchased from these guys for various laptops and systems and they're really great - 5/5 for gobeyond services Ltd. They respond quickly to email, answer queries in great detail and will make sure they ring you if you have any queries about what you're purchasing, great crowd and excellent pricing alongside a great range to suit your needs, can't sing enough praise for these chaps. :D

jaguar - 3/5 - great service, decent pricing and good RMA handling from this lot. Their range is a bit smelly though so they lose 1 point there and another for a crap website -- otherwise a good crowd to deal with.

Been meaning to try out a few others such as dabs, scan, overclockingstore, chillblast and tekheads but just haven't gotten around to it as I've found everything I need with places that have a proven track record for me.

how could I forget - itdirect - 1/5 - useless and clueless, no thanks, went in once and never went back!

Jes - 3/5 - website isn't always fully functional with apparently missing stock, payment options aren't great but fantastic prices.

www.jes-computer.de simply for the prices. I ordered 2k worth of stuff from them that would have cost me 2300e from komplett. Granted apart from the menus the site is in german but if you know what your looking for it's fine. Delivery takes about 2 weeks and you don't need a credit card to order. Despite them being German I found customer support to be good. They replied to my e-mails within minutes. 4.5/5 Would be 5/5 for a completely english site which they are supposed to be working on.

    Komplett.ie 4.5 / 5 : Great prices/service, now if only they weren't using GLS

www.overclock.co.uk 4.5/5 : Fairly good prices, very very speedy service, ordered the wrong part, didn't realise it till an hour later - couldn't cancel since they had already shipped it off!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 53 ✭✭jc94062

dabs.co.uk = 2/5 - used to be good then redid their site and its almost impossible to find or do anything there. Also had problems getting a payment authorised there

ebuyer.co.uk = 0/5 - ordered a USB extention cable and about a week later finally got a A-B cable. Sent it back and got a replacement, yet another A-B cable, had to make a load of phone calls as couldn't open another RMA on the same order to finally send it back, cancelled my order (at great length) after that. Their options to remove you from their mailing list also don't work - got them blacklisted from my site to stop the spam...

scan.co.uk = 2/5 - normally quite good but refused to send out my order due to one part not being in stock. Showed as 1-2 days lead time and had to change card after a week to get it. No emails telling me it was still unavailable 3-4 days after order. So basically, only buy if everything is showing as in stock and keep a close eye on it
[Edit] Refused any form of compensation for their extremely poor and unhelpful customer service on my gfx card order that ended up taking 6 days to get a different card...

overclockers.co.uk = 2/5 - not got my order yet but they wouldn't accept my switch card because it doesn't have an issue number (like most new ones) so can't say much for that... Prices are also fairly high for most componenets (£20 extra for a Venice 3200 than scan, £30 more for a Pretorian case etc..) so only worth it for specialist or on offer things)

I dunno wer u live but me and a few others think the carriage from komplett is dire! Once I waited 12 working days for a parcel! Komplett shipping €10 for me 4.5/5 for service

www.discount-computers-ni.co.uk are good enuf, bit of a budget crowd. sent me the wrong things a few times tho, shipping is very fast but a bit expensive, based in belfast. shipping is calculated by weight example: Epson Stylus R300, €8 3.5/5 service

www.marx-computers.ie not as cheap as komplett but better delivery(to monaghan anyway) 4/5 service

www.hitide.ie good for extreme stuff like WC and their PSU's are excellent. one of the cathodes they sold me melted tho! 4/5

Whats wrong with them, i am looking at getting my new case from them, but they dont seem to have any track record with any1.
They are the only place in ireland that has the case i want, i dont have many options.
Has any1 got stuff from them?

    www.discount-computers-ni.co.uk Beware
I got stung earlier with this company. When they sold the company and the new company didn't honor there old customers
I had returned cheap media that was sent out instead of branded media I paid for there was a delay in sending out the stuff. When I rang up they had changed company the new company was not honouring anything to do with the new company
