Can Mildred Fox still claim to be an "independant" after she accepted the help of a team of Fianna Fail lawyers in the recent Wicklow constituency recount?

Yes she can (people believing her is another matter), (presumably) she is not a member of Fianna Fáil. Of course one has to ask the question as to whether this could be construed as a 'donation' of services. In practical terms it was an attempt by Fianna Fáil to improve their negotiating position for government.

On a level of "democratic philosophy", surely every independant should be capable of drawing on such resources and she shouldn't be begrudged. Although I can't see the parties tripping over themselves to help all the independants. I think Sinnott (Ind) got some help from other parties in Cork SC against Dennehy (FF).
