    Thanks for that, i'll see if i can find it. My record for flying is 19/20 secs cuz i flew off the run way and across to the jetty at the other side in staunton.

    My longest flight is 17 seconds. I dunno how they work it out coz I've flown over the river for quite a bit but it doesnt bring up any time at all.
    Where is the car list in Portland? I know you bring the cars to do the docks but I cant find the list anywhere.
    I dunno if there is one on Staunton.
    To find the one on Shoreside:
    Come off the bridge or tunnel. Go straight past the airport turn and follow the road. It then brings you past all the billboards. The road winds right, you just keep going straight all the way from here. At the top there is a metal barrier running along the road to stop you going off the edge. (The area is Chocrane(sp?) Damn). Well where the barrier is there is a building on the left hand side of the road. There is a garage door here. Beside the door is the list of 16 cars.
    There ya go, I'm sure you know where abouts I'm talking about.

    I've just reached the third island on GTA3, having completed Ray's last mission (thought that one was impossible until I carried out what I thought was a novel solution
    I drove to the subway, and down to the subway track which I travelled via my cab, drove up through the subway to Ray's airport dropoff point :)

    I thought that one was tough. I'm delighted to hear that there are far tougher missions in store :eek:

    My favourite car? The stinger is class, good speed and handling. The cab has excellent handling, I've made around 50k just doing taxi runs. Bansee for pure speed (nice for those insane stunt bonuses) and the Linerunner for all the other feckers that get in your way :)

    The best gang car I've found so far is the Cartel Cruiser, nice speed and very durable and tough on the roads.

    I just tore through the tunnel for that last Ray mission in a banshee, just have to make sure you dont crash too much. I hate that Cartel Cruiser, its horrible to drive compared to the likes of the yakuza stinger.
    I found a deadly jump down near the portland docks to test the cars on, opens ure eyes to what cars can do what. My previous thoughts on the banshee being the fastest car in the game went straight out the window. It has best acceleration alright, but for top speed the infernus (not the cheetah) beats the livin shit out of it. Doing perfect jumps, the infernus was beating all other cars by close on 40ft for the jumps. You can't really dare touch the handbrake in it tho or she goes all over the road.

    I have finished (more or less) the game now, but reckon I missed a certain amount of missions on it, purely because of the percentage of missions that it tells me I have done. But I did all the first island, then did all the Asuka, Kenji, Ray, Donald Love missions on second island, then that black guy on the last island, did all his missions. Did the yardie missions aswell. (i may have left out somethin, im not at my PC to check), but I mean, there dont seem to be any other main figures in it, are all the other missions that I have missed the stupid car collection missions and races etc?
    Still im not complaining, I played the game solid for a fornight to get to the last mission, and its without a doubt the best single player game I have ever played. Pure class. Would be deadly multiplayer if they made a proper gang-type multi game of it. Or a mission pack with a dose more missions.
    Still tho, Im gonna start it again, its too good to stop playing.

    2 things to do that are fun.. firstly trucks and buses are great fun.. milling cars out of it.. anyway i think its the second island.. there is a military base and there is a miltary truck in it... get it... its cool... you can mill into cars for ages before it blows up... Also there is a tank.. now you can get it by doing a mission in a certain way but its easier to do the cheat.. im talking PS2 here now... not sure if its in the PC but i would say it is and easier to do cheat too... anyway its indestuctable so have fun... Great when you have finished the game and want other stuff to do... by the way when you finish the game you can still go back and do the missions you missed.. the phone ones anyway..

    I don't mean to brag or anything, but i racked up some 2,000 seconds flying that Dodo. It definitely is possible to nudge the Dodo so that you can fly above the buildings of Stauton island, all the while mantaining some semblance of control. I highly recommend you learn to fly it though, as it gives you breathtaking views of the city.

    There is a way to get the tank without really doing anything. After doing the Arms Shortage mission, there is that locked tank that sits there doing nothing. Well, (now I recommend you beat the ambulance level 12 side mission before attempting this), you can actually push the tank all the way back to your hideout. Sounds ridiculous, I know, but if you persistently sprint at the tank from behind, you will slowly push it out. It takes about 10 mins to get all the way back to the hideout, but it's well worth it, since you now get the tank quite early in the game (as opposed to waiting until you open up the third island).

    Finally, in reply to Makaveli, go straight down the docks, past the numbered garages, until you get to the water. Then turn left, and then left again, and you should find the Portland car list. There are two car boosting jobs to do in Portland docks however; one that deals with regular vehicles, and another that deals with emergency vehicles. Both are situated very near each other. Oh and there's no car boosting stuff to do in Staunton. Only Portland and Shoreside.

    Phew, hope that wasn't too spoilering! First post btw :)

    Download the Car Stat Editor for GTA3 from www.gta3mods.com .
    Last time I looked(and it's been a while so I could be wrong) Banshee was faster then any other car in the game.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

    I read on the gta3 forums I think, that the Infernus is the fastest car, but the Banshee has the quickest acceleration.
    My favourite car was the Banshee until I noticed how badly it actually handles. My new favourite is the Stinger followed by the Cheetah.
    The FBI car is also pretty nifty.
    As for the dodo, I still cant fly the thing, it goes up but then straight back down again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

    I was just thinking there about which cars are which. Like what real cars are they based on. Of course they may not be based on real cars at all, but the cars in the original GTA were based on real cars.
    My guess
    Infernus = Lamborghini
    Cheetah = Ferrari
    Stinger = Porsche (maybe)
    Banshee dunno, that car at the end of Bad Boys, whatever that was.
    I didnt really think about the other cars, plus I cant remember half of the cars.

    yeah the cheetah looks like a testarossa, and the infernus like a diablo. I think the banshee might sposed to be an AC Cobra. The cop car and taxi are definitely Ford Crown Victorias. The Bobcat looks like an Ford Ranger.
    I hadnt realised that El Burro on the first Island had a couple of missions other than the race one, but did them last night as I go through the game again. Mission pack, we really need one, altho you could play the game over and over for ages without getting bored.

    the dodo does to fly, glides for a few mins but thats all.. at least on the ps2 version anyway... hence the missing wings.. well half wings... stumps if you will... maybe a cheat somewhere but not sure...

    Eh banshee = viper

    Lies, it was perfectly flyable on the ps2.

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,389 ✭✭✭✭Saruman

    It was???? I spent ages trying to get it fly... best i got was 7 seconds in the air... Even tried ramping it... so was it perfectly flyable in the game itself or did it need a cheat??

    Btw im talking about the dodo thats at the airport on the 3rd island... in the hanger... with the stumpy half wings... is there another one some where that flies??

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,389 ✭✭✭✭Saruman

    Hey just found this... apparently you can but its not easy... i figured it would be piss easy since its only a console game and not something like flight simulator... guess i was wrong... i did not keep the nose down and once i was in the air i tried bringing it up... that was my mistake... here is the best way of doing it..

    ================CRUISING================

    By the time you have your aircraft steady, you will notice that you're getting close to Staunton Island. The most important thing to remember while piloting the dodo is to make small, smooth control inputs. never turn the stick severely or you will lose control of the airplane and crash. To make a turn, jerk the L3 stick to the direction you want to go. Do this quickly and repedetly in the direction you want to turn. For example when trning left: To make a slight turn, allow the plain to go from __ to / and leave it that way until the plain is on the desired course. Wen your flying the directio you want, again jerk the L3 stick the opposite direction of the turn.) Now, if you realize your about to smash into a building any second, and need to make a sharp turn, jerk the L3 stick o the left untill it goes from __ to / to |. This will make a very raid turn. When you have rolled your airplane enough to make your turn, stop jerking the stick sideways and your airplane should remain in the turn. Make small corrections to make sure that you keep your aircraft level at all times during the turn. When you are finished turning, push the stick in the direction opposite to your turn, remembering to make very small control inputs until your airplane is level again.

    He seems to contradict himself beautifully there.
    Also, wtf is the point of having an analgue stick if you have to move it like a digital pad?

    Patriot = Humvee
    Landstalker = Land Rover (of course:) )
    Sentinal = Lexus (maybe)
    Kuruma = Ford something probably although it could be Japanese like a Mazda or Hyundai or something.
    Blista = some spacewagon, Mitshubishi maybe or maybe a Ford Galaxy or something like that.

    You know the El Burro mission to collect the donkey porn, how far does it go?
    I made it to the docks and ran out of time. Does it go much further than that? Also to anyone that has just started the game, do the El Burro missions as soon as they appear otherwise if you do what I did and wait til you have completed the game and gone back them, you will find it extremely difficult to do them for certain reasons.
    That Turismo mission (the first El Burro one) is actually one of the hardest in the game I reckon. It took me ages to do using various different cars. It turns out the Banshee was the best for me.
    I think that's the only car fast enough on the first island to compete with the Cheetahs. You can get one in the garage beside 8balls.

    [edit] The Banshee doesnt have the best acceleration, the award goes to the BF Injector the banshees is 33 and the injectors is 35. Only one other vehicle accelerates as quickly as this and that's the little radio controlled car.
    Is the borgnine a boat? I was looking at the list of all the vehicles and I didnt recognise some of them.[/edit]

    The El burro Porn mission doesn't go much further..
    i.e. you turn into the dock (where you helped blow up the ship)
    take a left down into an alley-way, and take a right, and you should see 'the man' (read:target) at the opposite corner of the square..

    Apparently you don't have to collect every single magazine anyway..

    If you don't have any scruples about cheating, then the Turismo mission can be made a little easier, by parking a couple of well-placed vans/trucks in front of the other cars..
    Don't bump them though, or they'll start racing...

    This is handy, as apparently you can bump one of the other cars in the race back to your hideout, into the garage, and when you emerge, you'll have a fully unlocked bullet-proof car..

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,980 ✭✭✭✭Giblet

    The borgnine is a red taxi. Its a secret car, I can't remember how to get it, but I remember it was at Head Radio.

  • Registered Users Posts: 19,518 ✭✭✭✭Krusty_Clown

    Once you have completed 100 taxi missions, the borgnine will apeear in Harwood, in the head radio parking lot.

    (you don't have to do the 100 taxi missions in a row).

    i drove that dune buggy and jesus, unless you have a different version of gta to me, the banshee and numerous other cars hammer the BF. Its like one of those gammy cartel cruisers. i dunno what the stats say, i mean according to rockstar the fastest is the police car. maybe the acceleration of the car isnt totally based on the acceleration stat, maybe the weight/somethin else comes into it.

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

    That could factor into it.
    I tweaked the Banshee to have max acceleration and velocity and to be able to withstand more punishment, although this doesnt include gun shots.
    Does anybody have all the secret packages? I'm stuck on 93.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40 [niKo]

    I got 100 packages, but not without some help from the Internet. No way was I ever going to find them all on my own. Some of them are hidden away in really obscure places. The reward you get is the last weapon, the rocket launcher, at your hideout. You also get another bonus, but, well...I'm not telling :). Actually, there is another weapon you can get that doesn't involve the packages, and that is flame thrower. But of course, I'm not telling you how to get that either ;).

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

    Yeah I know what the reward is for all the packages.
    I have 94 of them now.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,004 ✭✭✭The Gopher

    Twice today looking at GTA sites theyve made a faint mention of some robbery where Catalina[the colombian cartel woman]betrays you.Im not sure what they mean exactly.I didnt think you could do any jobs for the cartel.I do remember driving a gang to do a robbery and then doing my bit as the getaway driver.I think it was in chinatown but im fairly sure that the robbers were members of Salvatores mafia family.So whats this bank robbery where she betrays you?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 40 [niKo]

    That bank robbery where Catalina betrays you refers to the intro sequence when you start up the game for the first time. The intro shows Catalina, Miguel and you running out of Liberty City Bank (pumping music in the background) where Catalina stops you and says something about being ambitious and something else about you being just smalltime. She then shoots you (and hence betrays you). I can't remember exactly what she says, but, well, all you need to do is fire up a new game and watch the intro :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,004 ✭✭✭The Gopher

    Cheers Niko-i was wondering why Catalina was so angry with me when i first went to the building site.I was under the impression id never met her before.

    Anyway i got the main missions of the game finished today.Great alternative ending:D :D I wont reveal it toi those who havent finished it but its a classic:p

    I'm stuck on the unique jumps. I have 19, I know where all 20 are and I'm bored to tears driving around the three islands trying to find out which one hasnt registered.
    Is there anyway of knowing if you have done it already? Like will it always come up "perfect insane stunt" if you have done it before and only "insane stunt" if it hasnt been registered as a unique jump?

    This might be the problem:
    I think the jump that I might not be getting is the one on Staunton Island where you drive down the centre bit of a bridge and this leads you between two trees, up a grassy bank and out onto the Callahan Bridge (er the Bridge between Portland and Staunton, cant remember if this is the right name). How do I get this one to register? I have landed on the bridge, no joy. I have smashed into the billboards, no joy. I have cleared the bridge, still no joy. Any ideas?
