I think I'll get a Dell Inspiron 8000 (i won't be paying for it all myself)

    http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.asp?customer_id=19&keycode=6V943&view=1&order_code=80WV

i dunno what half of this stuff is.. but i think i'll get:
    I'll get 900mhz 15'' UltraXGA TFT Display
    256mb SDram 1DIMM
    20gb hard drive
    32mb geforce
    24X cd rom
    cheapest modem

It works out at $2,212.00 b4 tax and shipping.
Is there a better alternative? is there anything wrong with those settings?
Will there be an empty space for me to add my own ethernet card?

Have you looked around for better prices on that? Where are you buying? Dell Direct?

looks like a nice spec. Only problem is it uses a 100mhz bus speed. You will be able to add a pc card network card later.

A crowd called Custom Computer systems Inc (http://www.wvccsi.com) at 2500 Fairmont ave, Suite 726
Fairmont WV 26554 seem to have it for about $1,500, though I don't know if they ship to Ireland, or indeed anything else about them. If you have a US contact, their number is: 800-379-1227. Hmm... no international number, so they probably don't ship internationally.
