I have a user here who could not access any network shares, i checked and he wasnt on the domain, i tried to connect the user to the domain and it gave me an error saying "duplicate name exists on the network" , i changed the name of the system and tried again but it was the same

Any ideas folks ? I read somewhere it could be a netbios problem ?

Did you reboot after changing the name?

Set the machine to a workgroup, open Server manager on your domain controller and delete any previous machine accounts associated with that PC. Then add it again to the Domain.

Go to the server. Remove the pc from the domain.
Go to the pc. Add it to the domain again. All will work wonderfully.

edit - bastard creed beat me to it

What is a duplicate? The user name or the computer name? Also make sure its not an ip conflict though thats unlikely!

Tried all that but no joy ...turns out it was a Netbeui problem because it was bound to 2 adapters , removed it from one and its working ...thanks for the help guys !
