And the bad news gets worse for those of us who appreciate an independent anti-establishment voice in the media. RTE has just announced it has dumped Dunphy for the rest of it's World Cup coverage.

Love him or loathe him, the man was always entertaining.

apparently he apologised to RTE and the audience after coming into work after a 'few' drinks and not sleeping night before.

hehe the mans a legend :)

So it woz the drink that dunnit !

But, I cannot find it in my heart to condemn the man. Maybe it’s because when he sees the incompetency and corruption in the Irish soccer establishment, he despairs. It demonstrates the man is passionate in his views and has more soul in his little finger than all the other panellists combined.

You’ll be sorely missed, Eamon ol’ mate........ a giant among the cardboard cut-outs and brown-nosers in RTE.

I had one too many going into an evening shift last month. I got a finger-wagging and was sent home.

But, I WASN’T fired. And I’m a lot less indespensible to my employer than Dunphy is to RTE.

Mebbe he was (in the true spirit of a great biographer) simply trying to retrace the experience of his subject! Mebbe he engineered the thing so that he, too, could be sent home in disgrace. :)

Kinda like a method actor who lives his character for greater insight.

Here here. He may be biased, he may be crackers, but he was passionate, he was entertaining, and he didnt give a damn what people thought about him. I agreed with him just as much as i disagreed with him, but i'll miss him on those world cup panels. It wont be the same..

Now all we have to listen to is fecking Giles, Brady and possibly Stapleton. Somehow I don't think I'm gonna be awake for the start of any second half in the world cup now. :(

Cool the jets mate, he wasn't sacked. Just suspended, to surely return after the world cup.

As far the possibility of him being replaced by Frank Stapleton - that might not be such a bad move.

Reason I say this is that it would be almost as entertaining to watch poor Frank endeavour to string a sentence together. Funnier still is that he isn't the lose cannon dunphy is where the drink is concerned, and so it would be purely down to has lack of speech and drama classes ;)

Even pre Apres Match, there has been a static image of Frank Stapleton in my head, or as Frank would see "in me ed", of a complete cabbage.

This stems mainly from that program that used to be on Network 2 years ago, on a Friday and Saturday night around midnight ( name eludes me now :( ), where the guy who does Frank in Apres match had a weekly skit of Frank - but the way he did him was with a container of soup packets upside down on his head, coloured, in true low budget fashion, with black permanent market. It's an image that is somewhat hard to describe without a visual, but it's one that will never leave the memory if you've been lucky enough to see it.

Maybe... ( this talk is giving me an idea ) .. .just maybe.. they could ask the guy who plays frank in apres match to act as dunphy's replacement, on the condition that he wears the forementioned attire :)

    *Laughs heartily*

Erm, that's my beef............ I wanted to see him as an RTE panellist for the World Cup. I don't watch "The Weakest Link". :)
