    Quick'n'Easy question, this one:...

    I want to add Windows xp to a PC, dual-booting with my existing Windows 2000 Professional installation, - essentially to test out 'xp' on the machine with the potential of migrating over completely if I'm happy with it.

    Is this information on doing this operation all I'll need or does anyone have any specific suggestions?

    It actually is as easy as that. I've been doing it 3 or 4 times every day for the past few months testing install routines and other stuff. Works beautifully.

    Even I can do it (therefore, if you can't, you deserve sympathy)

    But why dual boot it?
    The new RC2 (which is only available through a download from the microsoft website..unless you know other means), is compatible with everything.

    I know this guy, and his favoutie game is "Golden Tee Golf", and whatever he did he could not get it to run on NT any version or Windows 2000 or even XP until he got RC1, now his favourite game runs on XP and no need for 9X...true story.

    Chernobyl...

    The copy of XP I have is labelled "Windows XP Professional Beta 2, Checked Build - (English) MSDN Disc 0787, May 2001 (This disc is unsupported by Microsoft Product Support Services)"...

    How's that?

    From:Windows XP Frequently AskedQuestions====>
    Is a CD version of RC2 available?

    No, Windows XP RC2 is being distributed exclusively online.

    Chernobyl- fair enough that, but will the May 2001 copy I have (beta 2) of XP do the job just as well?

    Absolutely, but there is a marked improvment in speed from RC1 to RC2.

    if you have "WIN51IP.RC2" and "WIN51.RC2" in the root dir of the cd, you should be fine.

    But May 2001 thats like 2 months b4 RC1 Bard.

    Some would say "its a complete replacement" but there is another 9X os in development, currently called "Blackcomb", it is on the net for download, but it will take you lots of time to get it.

    XP is eye candy galore, it **rock** stable, it really is great.
