My DVD drive is an AOpen 12x, and it *roars* when copying from some cds. This never happens with user-writable cds, only on DVDs and the "normal" silver cds.

Does anyone know of a way to slow it down to the speed it reads CD-Rs? Would be nice to watch DVDs without the annoying high pitched roar.

Yeah, I had one of those.
I *think* it's more to do with ti having to slow down to read the disc, though I'm not sure about that at all.

    They're noisey at best anywyas.

Usually you can drop the read speed on the cd.
Nero Drive speed slows down the read speed of the drive and sets spindown times aswell.
It comes with the Nero wrtiting software
