Sorry if this is the wrong place to post but does anyone know a website that I can look for handsets that arent tied into operators?

    Cheers.

    Hi Lex_D,

I use Expansys http://www.expansys.com for most of my device buying. Main forms of payment they accept are Credit\Debit Card, Cheque and Bank Transfer. With credit card payment I've had to send a fax authorisation after completing the online credit card purchase (Photo ID and front/back of credit card with a signed form you print out). In stock items are sent by FedEx in about 3 days.

Another option is mPhone http://www.mphone.co.uk who were responsive and helpful when trying to get a now discontinued extended battery for an Ericsson R520. Would be worth e-mailing them first, they gave me instructions on what to do. I was ordering with a VISA card and I needed to fax a signed authorisation with a copy of the card after completing the order online.

    HTH,
    Brian G.

On that expansys site you can just click on France or one of the other euro countries in the top right to see euro prices.
I noticed that the prices after VAT very from country to country but the before VAT are the same.... so does anyone know how that would apply to Ireland? Do the UK prices apply to us?

yeah - expansys suggested that after they removed the euro optoin from the UK site

although the exchange conversion can be all over the palce e.g. before shipping and tax etc... on UK site iPAQ 5450 STG £375 (approx Eur 530) on the european sites iPAQ 5450 Eur 600...

they used to mix their european and uk stock together on the UK site, not so much anymore but you can still see some occurances. e.g. on the Pocket PC listings on their Bluetooth page...
    e.g.
    Fujitsu Siemens LOOX Pocket PC
    £272.60 (232.00 exc.)
Fujitsu Siemens LOOX Pocket PC French Version
    £351.33 (299.00 exc.)

i find having an xe.com window open beside me with the UK version of the site works best

I plan on getting the Sony Ericsson t610 from www.sony-ericsson.com/uk in the next few weeks. They quote you online for delivery to Ireland (only a few pounds more). This is of course without a contract - sim free. Even though you have to convert from sterling, it works out at about €360 which is pretty good for a phone with Bluetooth, massive screen, small size, etc. If you go to the German Sony Ericsson site, the cost of the same phone is about €600, so I know where I'm shopping..

They have a few cheaper phones, like the t68i, which works out at €215, which is a few 100 euro cheaper than O2 is offering (with a contract, at that)

I have no idea why Sony Ericsson are selling their phones for so little, but thats good for us.

yeah their shipping price is great - i had a problem ordering online with them though earlier in the year - they had major problems with my "Irish style" address with their billing system - ended up had to order elsewhere

they might have sorted it by now - or perhaps ordering over the phone (rather than online) might work a bit better
