ok, just got dsl, and i have been reading in a magazine that in XP Quality of Service settings, theres a section called Resource Reservation Protocol, that keeps 20% of your bandwith in reserve, unfortunatley the magazine dosent tell u how to disable it. I am paying through the nose for this dsl so i want the full bandwith available so i was wondering have any of you tried and succesfully disabled it????

Click Start, Run, then type 'gpedit.msc' and click OK.

    Go to:
    Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Network\QoS Packet Scheduler\

and double click on 'Limit reseravable bandwith'

Set it to enabled, and specify 0%

(read somewhere that disabling it still reserves the 20% ?)

Pretty curious about this also, have an installer coming next tuesday to connect me up.

I'm running xp (pro sp1) also and am loath to put any eircom software near my pc , i assume it can be done like any other dialup setup with just popping in user/password etc (except following the "connect to the network via broadband" wizard this time) ?

Have done the QOS tweak also already, pretty much as Mixie has described.

Yup installation is as easy as pie.
Create new network connection and thats it.
Xp cops on its pppoe and does everything for you.
    Must try that 20% thing.
