I have PowerDVD and WinDVD. They came with my card.
I try to enable the hardware moiton compenstain in Pwoer DVD but it says it can'tdo it cos it isn't supported by my card.
In the readme it says that the version i have recently had it implemented and it has been tested ion my card and it works.
I have nVidia reference drivers, Detonator3 ver 6.50
This thing is also one of the features named on the box for the card in which the software came in, so i'm a bit p1ssed off.

Huh? hardware compensation eh? I don't see that in PowerDVD, what version are you running?
I've used PowerDVD for a couple of years now, and i don't recall that option in any rev.
The only place i've seen it is in DVD Genie, which has a lot of revs, is your version of PowerDVD supported by it?
Do you need it anyhow?, most cpu's over 600mhz give perfect DVD playback in my experience, with WinDVD or Cinemaster you can lower that to 450mhz.
Or are you using the WinDVD Configuration expert app?ie in your case, the GeForce Motion Compensation option and Hardware Motion Compensation should be applicable and acceptable in there.(they are on my lowly tnt1 and tnt2's)

The reference driver 6.50 ? huh, under what os, just checked out the nvidia website, the current "reference " driver for win95/98/me is v12.41 and in win2k its the same rev ie 12.41.

I suspect that its a driver rev thats the problem. Recommend updating your drivers . But oddly, if you are running win2k, i recommend downloading detonator 2 drivers instead, there is a lot of issues with the 3 drivers and video capture , most win2k rippers recommend detonator 2 drivers instead.
    In any

    Lots more info needed here.

For what it's worth I have PowerDVD 3.0 and Geforce2 Pro with the 12.9 dets. Turning on hardware acceleration reduced the image quality, so you're not actually missing much.

PowerDVD 2.55 may be the problem, that version is pretty long in the tooth, i much prefer the picture quality and fluidity of motion in 3.0. Certainly you're pc should be more than able to give perfect playback with an 800mhz cpu.
I've also heard that about picture quality with software vs hardware as _CreeD_ pointed out, many people recommend software decoding as opposed to hardware.
In your case not only do you not need hardware decoding , you probably are better of without it.
