Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I'm considering buying a portable mp3 player, most likely the new Creative Nomad Jukebox 3, which will set me back almost €400. The thing is, though, I'd almost be afraid to take it with me when I go out, for fear of losing it, being mugged or so on.

Can I get it insured? Who should I talk to? Are there companies that specialise in small items like this? I'd happily pay a fiver a month or more for the peace of mind...

Find a shop that offers insurance, just like those phone shops that offer their own insurance on phones

It might be possible to add it to the contents cover of your house insurance. (that is if you pay home insurance ;))

as far as i know, it should be covered by house hold contents insurance....i'd double check to be sure though :D

If you buy it in a 'Dixons-like' shop, they will also try and sell you an extended warranty, e.g. one which lasts for a period of time after the product's one-year warranty has expired..

These typically cover the product against theft as well...
Talk to the salesman about an extended warranty/theft insurance..

Sometimes, if you go for an extended warranty you can also get a reduction off the price of the goods at the same time..

BTW: these tend to be viewed as a bit of a rip-off, as you will more than likely not claim against the policy during the extended period..

I bought a digital camera in Dixons for 450 squids. they offered me a four year extended warranty (3 years over the product warranty) for 120 squids. But they also gave me 60 quid off the camera, and threw-in 20 punts worth of goodies for the camera (which I would have bought anyway).

So the cost of the warranty/insurance was approx 15 punts a year.. I'm sure if I had bartered though, I could have got 60 quid off the camera, without taking the policy. btw: I never claimed off the policy. I reckon you're more likely to lose your MP3 player than have it stolen (not covered)...

If I buy it I'll be getting it from the US, (~$350) instead of over here because when it is available (this model not even available in the UK yet!) it'll be much more expensive over here.

Guess I'd better call whoever it is that does our house insurance then.
