Funding or grants for musicians?

Howdy all, just wondering if anyone knows of any avenues for funding or grants for musicians? Friends of mine are trying to get to states as well as release new single and could definetly benefit from some extra cash. Any one have any suggestions or experience with this?

i looked into this before and i think the gist of it is that you find a company to sponsor you and said company gets tax breaks etc

what your friends should do is ring someone in the arts department of the government
