I have a 24-port 100Mbit switch at home at the moment.
Trying to Hypertermianl into it to do some configuring, have the cable plugged, PC and switch are in, have tried using both COm ports (even though only on is enabled) just in case windows has named them in reverse order to my motherboard.
I've used the speeds and settings as decribed in the manual (8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, 9600baud, no compression, I forget about flow control, don't think it's mentioned).
I've been using hardware flow control.
I tell hyperterm to make the call using the COM1, swithc is on etc.
It says it's connected, the manual says to hit any key to see the main menu, but when I do, nothing comes up.

    Anyone got any ideas?
Is ther something blatently obvious that I'm missing?
Running Win2k pro SP2 if it makes any ifference.
Can run Win98SE or Linux (mandrake 8.2) if neccessary.

You could try minicom under Linux... start it as root with a "-s" switch, dont forget to save your config b4 exiting. Try sending a few breaks once its conected. (ctrl-k h for help)

Did the cable come with the switch or did u get it else where?

I got talking to it last night, had to use VT100 terminal mode, Hyperterm was in auto negotiate.
Got to viewing the main menu, but I still can't modify anything like VLAN port settings.

    Switch is a Unex SD240
