Having been with EOL now for around 6 months I find it quite useful. Help from them may not be the best but other users will always help. With regards to download restrictions there are none but you have a temp area of 700meg. That said I have been over the limit on a few occasions with no comebacks.
For games - yeah its pretty useless but for downloading files well - get flashget and speeds of 50k / sec are easily achieved on a good site. The other way as mentioned is to request the files and be allocated a time slot (normally an hour or 2 later).
But there are hacks avail which allow you to download the same requested files as others, this can be interesting. I have setup a new forum if anybody has more questions on this subject. It can be found at http://www.sat4the.co.uk under forums.
Hope this helps answer some of the questions here.

StrataGIST is 2 way only for companies because is expensive. I pay 19.23$ per month for one way.

Here's a press release that may be of interest:

New BEAM™ satellite broadband technology hits
    UK ahead of rivals

A Scottish based entrepreneur has stolen the
march on Bt Openworld and NTL for the national
roll out of satellite broadband technology
thanks to an alliance with Onstar Europe.

Fraser Hay, CEO of Highland based Strategic
Marketing Ventures (SMV), has signed the
deal to introduce the new broadband service
called Beam™ to the UK and unlike its
    competitors it’s available NOW.

This 2-way “always on” broadband Internet
    connection via satellite, www.broadband4uk.com
provides businesses with fast, reliable and
    cost effective connection,
without the need of land based cable or telephone
networks so eliminating all call charges and
slow uploads. Beam™ is currently up to 10
times faster than a 56K modem, and over five
times faster than a dedicated ISDN line.

The satellite is in orbit 22,300 miles (35,800 km)
above the equator. It communicates directly with
the earth-based hub, which in turn has a direct
two-way connection to the Internet. No telephone
connections, no dial-up accounts, no other Internet
service providers involved, straight from the
user to the satellite – it is accessible to everyone.

Businesses nationwide, from John O’Groats to Lands
End, will reap the benefits of Beam™ by visiting
the online product information site -
    www.broadband4uk.com. Initially the product is
available in the UK and Ireland, with discussions
already underway for Beam™ to be rolled out
throughout the rest of the world.

    Additional advantages to businesses include:
    · A permanent “always on” internet connection
    · Much cheaper than leased lines
    · Connection which is 10 times faster than
    a 56K modem
    · Cost effective video conferencing
    · Fast delivery of page content, emails and
    files

“Whilst the government continues to battle with telecommunications and ADSL companies to extend
our cable infrastructure to get the UK online by
2005, Beam™ is live and ready now. This
    technology revolutionises how businesses will
operate online, and makes broadband a feasible
option for all businesses,” said Fraser Hay,
CEO of Strategic Marketing Ventures Ltd, owners
    of small business portal, www.hitsnclicks.com.

    Beam™ provides high-speed connection comparable
with ADSL, yet with no limits, allowing all
businesses to have faster access for the use
of multi media content, video conferencing and
real time video email. In addition, as Beam™
is a permanent connection to the web it allows
    constant communication, eliminating the
painstaking dial up process, which so many
    businesses are currently suffering.

On installation an elliptical Beam™ satellite
dish on or near the required property, which
simply needs an unobstructed view of the
southern sky. Two cables connect your dish
to your PC via a Beam satellite modem inside
    your property.

Hay continued, “Business users of Beam™ also
have the opportunity of subscribing to SMVs
    hitsnclicks.com, an online marketing resource
centre dedicated to help drive traffic, value
and revenue to SME websites. In addition, SMV’s real time video email product, elive2u www.elive2u.co.uk
is available allowing companies to communicate
with voice and video over the Internet in real
    time.”

    - ends -

http://www.broadband4uk.com Broadband access via satellite throughout UK now.
