Trying to hep a friend with this prob (no not me). Here it is.

    - He tries to install a game on his laptop from work (unsure which game).

    - Game requires directX and hes running NT. He continues his install after various incompatible messages (twit).

    - Tries to run game or reboot, not sure which and sys blue screens with a message like this.
    blah blah techy numbers shíte
    blah blah techy numbers shíte
    blah blah techy numbers shíte

cant find/deleted so and so files
    blah blah techy numbers shíte
    blah blah techy numbers shíte

    starting physical memory dump
    finished dump
    (thats the jist i got)

    - The machine now gives this blue screen message as soon as its switched on. He has no NT cd, no boot disk or anything else. Any ideas?

    - Hes in trouble if he cant fix this without going to his IT heads cos they dont like games and will rat him out he says. (more like theyll find ur plumper-babes stash, he wasnt amused)

    no nt cd = screwed.
1.try hitting spacebar for last know good...prolly wont work
2.try choosing second option at boot-up for default video settings...prolly wont work
3.use nt cd to try a repair...prolly wont work.
4.use nt cd to reinstall, will work but need to reinstall proggies too.
    5.run

boot up into Dos with DOS disks then delete most of the system directory, delete some other files. Then see if a friend can find you a virus related file and copy it onto the machine.

Then call IS. Might get a slap on the wrist, but it will be less of a slap then if he had a game installed.

Oh yea and delete the game.

No but he will be able to trash the machine. Format it, then fdisk and delete all the patitions.

Not really meaning to naggle here, but unless the IT guys are having a serious hangover they will see what he did a mile away, won't they? FDISK won't delete the partition it's running from, will it? and that's also kinda out side.
I like the devious nature of the plan though. 'll get Biggles and we'll do an airdrop over Von Reichstad's castle in Bernoldtz at midnight the 12th, when the guards will be alseep after the 4th equinox festival.........[trails off]

    Solution 1

pour a few drops of water on the board when no-ones looking...and hope it just goes pop and evaporats before those nasty I.T. ppl come running.

    Solution 2

Disconnect the drive and repeatly bounce it off the floor..reconnect ..hard drive crash..(say its being making a lot of clicking noises recently)

    Solution 3

Be honest..burst into tears and swear you will never do it again (likely to succeed if you are a buxom female and the IT guy is a spotty hormonal teenager)...hes fuxured

Sounds like he tryed to install DX on NT (just doesn't work) The only way your m8's going to get it fixed is to bring it to the IT lads. If he tryes to put a new OS on he will be useing the wrong CD-key (one that the company doesn't own) This can cause a lot of sh!t right now. He could try using the last knowen good Reg......if that doesn't work, theres no way out but a format and reinstall.

Nope, it will nuke the partition fine. IT guy will realise there is no partition but good luck trying to find the game you installed. smile.gif

My advice is to get pally with a few IS guys and then tell them what you did (although probably too late now). Look after the IS guys and they will look after you.
