    I think this happens if you reply to a topic for a second time and click the 'email notify' box at the bottom of your reply again - thus registering you for two emails every time someone replies to the thread. It may also happen if you click the box, even though you already have the 'subscribe to this forum' thingy setup. It's a matter of remembering which threads you've already subscribed to.
