    Winners dont go into it anymore.
    This is the 1st World cup to have it .

    Im not 100% on that but nearly sure its this one that will be the 1st.

    well afaik brazil got into france 98 because they won usa 94 and france got in because they won france 98 i think this has always gone on

    who said they were changing it?

    It's an unusual one to call because no host has ever gone into a tournement as defending champions so Germany might be making history twice if they can keep a clean sheet on Sunday.

    Knowing FIFA as we don't I'm sure they'll find some way to give Germanys 'winners' place over to the Asian or North American confederation (in the 'spirit' of football) and thus make it EVEN harder for European teams to qualify!

    Look at the evidence for FIFA screwing UEFA in the past. Despite expanding the tournament from 24 to 32 teams UEFA was only given one extra place for the 1998 world cup and even that was turned into a play-off game for the 2002 cup! All this despite the fact that UEFA now has over 50 members now as opposed to around 30 at the turn of the 80's and despite instead of having to just deal with the likes of USSR and Yugoslavia we now have countries like Russia, Georgia, Ukraine, Yugoslavia, Slovenia and Macedonia all swimming in the piranaha fishbowl for places in the finals.

    I don't mind giving places over to the other federations if they are deserving of them over other federations but in the case of North America (and particularily Asia) they have proved time and again that they are not worthy of these extra berths.
