Well I have just ordered a Athlon Thunderbird 1.40GHz 266mhz. To go with it i have a I-Will KK-266R Socket A Board which is probably the best non-DDR mobo going these days, though if you are going with DDR AFAIK EPOX make a very good one. I also have a Thermalright SK6, just arrived yssterday=] I don't know what fan to recommend, but it really depends on whether u want a jet engine that does a great job, or something really quiet. I think Artic Silver compound II is a good thermal compound.

    Hope that helps.

Have a look here. They list some suppliers of Arctic Silver in the UK. After a quick look Tekheads look the cheapest but dont forget shipping. I have some of this stuff lying around somewhere, if I find it I'll send it to you. but dont hold me to that wink.gif

depending on your budget, and how much overclocking you want to do, go for the abit kg7-lite for budget, or the epox 8k7a+ for overclocking. Perhaps the msi k7t master either if it is about. There are more boards around, like the shuttle ak31 rev2, but I wouldn't say dabs have it.

actually dabs don't have the epox board.

What they do have is the msi k7t 266

    http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-search.asp?action=search&tid=770&mid=050&ob=manufacturer&obd=asc&stab=ref

Then scroll right down the end, to this board:

    SoA KT266 ATX A
    Mfr code: MS-6380/K7T 266
    Quicklinx: Y50WS
    3-4 days £105.00
    £123.37

Or here for the abit board:

    http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-search.asp?action=search&tid=770&mid=742&ob=manufacturer&obd=asc&stab=ref

And down the end again is this board:

    SoA AMD 761 ATX
    Mfr code: KG7
    Quicklinx: YWHWS
    1-2 days £123.00
    £144.52

The abit board will be slightly faster, but the msi board is cheaper. Both boards are nice and stable.

Both boards also have more expensive versions with 4 extra ide channels, if you need them, and the abit kg7-raid also has 4 dimm slots.

Both boards take pc2100 ddr ram, available here:

Ah, you typed that meantime smile.gif

The epox is an extremely fast, stable board, I think www.overclockers.co.uk have it. DDR will give a 10-15% boost in applications that require loads of memory bandwidth. (eg games) The ddr ram is now just as cheap as sdram, at least the crucial ram on dabs. so why not go for it.

OCUK is originally where i looked up this stuff but i was advised to stay away from them altho i think i might chance getting the mobo from them cuz that Epox one sounds the biz like, i'm looking through the newegg.com site now which is American but a lot of ppl think it cheaper to get Tarzan to send stuff over i'm in two minds as to what to do cuz i need this pc ASAP. Also Gerry what Fan do you reccomend for the Athlon 1.4Ghz Socket A 266FSB?
