Ever since I put in my GeForce 2 MX - My ping in CS is very jumpy.

    I'm a 56K'er and my usual ping is around a 200 - 220.

Lately it has been shooting up to 270 - 300 and beyond.

Any1 else with this same problem ??

    Please Help !!

It may not be the card at all.

    Could be the ISP though

    He has this config:
Gateway machine => Winmodem straight off.
    Celeron 400
nVidia Riva128 8meg built-on (disabled in windows - don't know about the quirky BIOS)
    brand new GeForce2 MX PCi

I reckon if there's a BIOS up[date available with a Slocket anda 800mhz FCPGA P3 he could do nicely. Amybe some ram too wink.gif
    Anyone wanna donate/reccomend better?

    just after checkin itdirect.ie
    got this
    Slocket card:£12 approx
    Celeron 766Mhz-1.1Ghz:IR£67-IR£147
    P3 866Mhz-1.26Ghz:IR£204-IR£512

Geta BIOS update (if available) and for £80 double your proccessing power.
Of course these are all at least 100Mhz FSb, whereas your ram is 66 frown.gif
You'd need a new mobo too, new soundcard and RAM. You could have a new system for approx £400. Though your case is also very small.
Still, worth considering, the advantages in rolling your own are great.
But as for your ping, try this: http://www.spy.net/~dustin/modem/
and get INIT strings for your winmodem (think I saw a Winbond chip on it, really not sure, coulda been the Lan cards in Niall's office giving me the idea<?> )
Good luck anyways though Mike smile.gif

    Big Ups Koopa !!

    fps_max "72.0"
    fps_modem "72.0"

Unless it was the server but my Ping went back to its ol' steady 180-200.

On first inspection - when I first joined the Irelands CS 1.1 server - I started Laaagging like a ***** - and getting constant Flush_entity packets but when I actually joined a Team - Everything was rosey.

I have no idea why I was lagging at the start - maybe it was just pure old lag.

    Thanx a bunch fellas !

damn, and I was hoping to go messin around with your whole system.....
Still, If (when really) you decide to get a new PC, look into building it yourself.you could save a bundle and learn heaps along the way.
get Seán to help you if he's around. wink.gif [and I don't just mean puttin it together]

sounds like a winmodem problem, cheapest thing to do is to buy a new modem.

whats happening is probably that with your old graphics card, the graphics card was so slow that the CPU was idle half the time anyway, so having a winmodem didnt affect you as much as it should have, since the CPU could deal with the modem part while the graphics card was slowly drawing the screen(im guessing either you had a **** graphics card, or else used a really high res considering the card you had)

whats happening now is that the geforce is drawing the stuff as fast as your cpu can tell it what to draw, one way around this is to cap your maxfps, eg. try cl_maxfps 30 or something, see if it helps your ping.. if it does, then im definitely right

now all you need to do is buy an external modem.... after all, there's no point in spending money on a yummy new geforce if you can't run it at top speed because of your modem!

i recommend usrobotics. but anything external would be nice smile.gif

Edit: Well done koopa, btw... give yerself some karma wink.gif
