Quake3 timedmo benchmark

Um, can anyone tell me how to timedemo benchmark with Quake3? it says something about timedemo being write-protected, i think... it's not as easy as it used to be with Quake 1

i dunno what a benchmark is, but a timedemo in q3 is easy
its cheat protected in game, because it changes the timescale, which allows you to change the speed of the game.
as soon as you load up q3, in the console,
type:
timedemo 1
demo demo001

this is if you're using point release 1.17 or earlier.
for 1.27, do:
timedemo 1
demo demo127

i can't remember what the timedemo is for 1.29.
(btw, the quake board is quiet enough these days, but ppl will still reply if u post there)
