    how bright are they?
spose we'd need a mains supply for the voltage? or can we take it off the intake from the PSU?
Spose they get brighter with more voltage.

A normal led is a couple of mcd
A superbright one is like 200mcd

It runs of 12v but u need an inverter

Ahh, nice one ppc, nice one. I've been looking for these, last time I looked maplin didn't carry them. I can't tell from the pics, but these are something like 3-6mm in diameter aren't they?
I took one from an old laptop screen once, unfortunately I broke it, put it in a little box to keep it safe, and dropped the box, and it was in bits.

are they sound sensitive/do they have any functions or are they jsut "steady glow"?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,396 ✭✭✭PPC

They seem to be just a steady glow but you could make a soundsensitive device if you needed to.
These can be used with Bit-Tec's cathode throbber aswell.
Just need to get a friend in England to ship me over 3 inverters for em.

    Oh, this is disappointing.

    Seems they've been discontinued. :(

Ah.. missed that. I assume they'll be getting the inverters in soon? Will have a look next time I'm in town.

By the way: zymods.com: ~$19 for one cold cathode tube, one clear protective tube to go over it, one inverter, heatshrink stuff to go over the inverter, and international shipping. I hope they pack these properly, might get a couple.

[edit]Just noticed this: "Bulbs broken in shipment will only be replaced if shipped by UPS. No broken bulb replacement warranty if shipped by USPS (Standard shipping)"[/edit]

    ::Update on the cathode situation::

Was taking the red/pink one out of the packaging and it snapped :(

The psu's will be back in the first week of September but i'm trying to get a friend to get me some from the Newcastle one in England.
If so i should have em friday.

Also these cathodes can fit in the front of a midi tower dragon case and look really sweet.
If i remember later i'll post my friends pics.

Ah, good news. I went in last Thursday, they didn't have any of the power invertors, he checked the UK stores stock db, and they had none either, and couldn't tell me when they might have some, so I decided to leave it for a while.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,396 ✭✭✭PPC

He could only get 1 for me i just found out.
So that'll go into the front of my Dragon when i get it and then get a couple more in September for my window:D

They will be in according to the guy in Maplin who was very helpful on the phone.

    I highly recommend getting some.

Komplett do em for €25 but u can get em from Maplin a hell of a lot cheaper. But tbh they break so so easily i wouldnt buy online. I'd rather pic em up.

Will have more cathodes soon and a window and some more misc mods.

Thats the problem. If you buy one you kinda got to get a window aswell and there about €50 so thats a bit of a let down.... but i suppose... you kinda have to get one dont you.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,842 ✭✭✭phaxx

Problem with maplin is that they don't have the inverters, and komplett are too expensive and only seem to stock the green ones right now, very useful altogether.
