Is there anyone out there who knows enough about the job market in dublin or surrounding area's who can tell me when the best time of the year it is to find permanent work?
I am trying to find a job in Insurance (auto) and I plan to look around october-november...is this a good time to search?
    I appreciate any help.

why are you planning to wait until then?

most people only plan something like that if they are moving geographical location, or there are specifics in their present job.

what is stopping you from doing it now?
i cant imagine the auto insurance industry has seasonal peaks and troughs, i mean lets face it, you have to have your car insured, dont you.

just go for it i say.

why not do a search of the sites of the big players like eaglestar, pmpa, axa, etc etc

If your interested in moving to Galway there are two major insurance companies down here the first being Hibernian and Churchhill are coming to Galway as well (you know the crowd with the nodding dog in the add).

I do work in the insurance/finical services side of software and tbh anytime is a good time to look for work. Although you will most likely end up in a call center :)

    kayos,
why would I end up in a call center do you think? I dont really want to do that, I have 3 yrs experience as an underwriter, right now I run an office independently and will be a licensed agent in a few weeks.
Should'nt this get me a better position than call center?
I appreciate any info you can give me.
If you think you can give me any help in getting a position pm me I appreciate any help at all!
    thanks ;)

Sorry there beat it just looked liek from your post you were only getting into it. Any way if you have 3 years exp as an underwriter you should find it easy enough to get a job at any stage.

I hold no sway with the hiring departments of any insurance companies but all I can do is let you know when I know they are looking. HIB have moved into a huge new building and afaik they will be moving a lot of the business to Galway. So it might be a good idea to check it out.

I'd agree that now is as good a time as any. Even if the market seems a little slow, just apply directly to as many companies as you can.

I shouldn't be saying this because I work in recruitment, but don't waste time going through an agency unless they specialise in insurance positions, whenever things get slow companies tend not to farm out jobs to agencies as much.

Permanent work shouldn't be affected seasonally in the way that temp work is (I have 200 students coming into the office everyday looking for short term contracts in every profession you can think of - there are bugger all temp jobs!) so just keep trying (and if at first you don't suceed..... redefine success!) :)

thanks, I just emailed a cv to the hibernian ins. as was suggested above, hopefully I will hear something soon...if they are moving to galway they should be in need of employees ;)
was'nt planning on living in Galway, but I will! I'll move pretty much anywhere if I can get the position I am looking for ;)

Surely the best time to look for a job is when one needs it?
