I'm trying to put Linux onto my laptop in a dual boot system with Win98. It has a 6GB HDD. I've got 4GB free space as reported by MSINFO32, problem is when I try to use FDisk or CFDisk to repartiton the free space, it tells me that the FAT32 partition is 100% full. It aint goddamnit!

    Help pwease :]

    PiE:

These tools - (C)FDisk - don't allow for existing partitions to be resized. Although you've got 4GB of free space, it's within a 6GB partition that's using up all of your disk. You'll need something like Partition Magic to resize your existing partition to free up space to create new partitions.

The only other option is to delete the existing partition (which will complelety nuke all data on the HDD) and create a smaller one for Windows (which you'll then have to reinstall) and leave room for two for linux (it's recommended to create a small partition for your swap - virtual memory, that is - and a larger one for your filesystem, IIRC).

Another thing to be careful of when dealing with lappies is that they may have a special partition for suspend-to-disk data - it's been a while since I've fiddled with partitions on a laptop, so STD may be out of fashion these days, but watch out for it just in case...
