Oh and that's what you based your CAO choices on? How very shallow. From what i've heard, DBS is an excellent college, and universities don't make people pompous, that kind of stuff starts long beforehand.
I think DBS would be a good choice.

Nah thats not it at all, but i wouldnt go to a private college, when i could as easily go to a free one. sometimes* those places are full of ppl who dont do that well, but have enough money to buy a place in college, eventhough they dont have the brain for the course, thats the case with the bloke i know

and i never said the college made him pompus

dbs would be a long way down my list, a last resort

    *sometimes, as in not everyone

    Jackass,
I'm going there in October to do a Dip in Business Studies, part-time. I've already finish a B.Sc. from UCD and want to do something in a different field.

I can't tell you what its like as a place to study and socialise, I was hoping some one would reply with some useful comments.

I've been to public an private secondary school and have friends from Tallaght to Donnybrook. Ppl can be pompus dickheads and scumbag dickheads. Some ppl pay to go to private colleges cos they are rich and didn't study for the LC, others cos they are poor and want away out of poverty through education.

I chose DBS cos the programme was what I wanted and its in the city so I can get there after work, and its got subsedised parking, i'm told.

    To the real ego,
You obviously don't know how to handle pompus ppl and build up a good relationship with them. Even if you think they are dickheads, everyone has something to offer.

Well, from what i've seen, DBS has some great degrees, the psychology degree is fantastic.
As for saying it's easy to get into....you DO need points to get in now, and the reason they're not as high as UCD and TCD etc, is because not everyone is going to apply to a college where they're going to have to pay €3500 per year for three years! Points for private Uni's are never going to be as high as state Uni's for precisely this reason.

And think about it this way : better standards of tuition because you're not in a lecture theater with 300+ others trying to learn.

And your original comment of oh I know someone that goes there and he's pompous and the building is ugly, is neither intelligent nor adding anything to this thread. Is UCD ugly? Very, but it's still a great Uni.

I have just commenced a part-time BA in the DBS and to be honest, dont know about it yet. The classes seem pretty small, but the curriculum was exactly what I was looking for and the lecturers seemed very interesting. I have heard lots of great stuff about it and from a business point of view, I have heard that it's degree's are pretty well recognised

    Hi Vood,
I started a PT Dip in Business Studies.. and man is the class HUGE!! 130 easily! I chose it cso its only a year long but has a braod enough scope for me too find out about a lot of areas so I can choose which is right for me.

I have to say the night classes are good. The ppl are understandibly reserved as most ppl dont know other ppl there. I always seem to be the one to initiate the convo.

Anyway I'm in on a Saturday night about to get out the books cos its the 1st chance all week I've had to look at the material.

    Anyway enough internet for now!

(BTW the reduced parking fee is great!!)

Drop me a message and tell me how the course is going

    Hi all,

I'm actually in DBS myself; I'm in my final year of a a four year the part-time business management course & I also completed a web design diploma prior to this.

In general I found the college to be excellent, the course is very very good and relevant with a good balance of Theory and Practical experience from the lecturers.

My advise to anyone choosing a college is not to base your judgement on say one persons point of view on one particular person/event but instead write down a short list of what you want and expect from a course and compare each course & college to that list and not to each other.

Whittle down your list then speak to current graduates and alumni. Most colleges will be happy to answer any concerns you have.

    Hope this helps. ;)
