I've done my "Chorus Sucks" mallarkey over on ICDG at various times, the concept of cable monopolies is sickening to me.

Anyways, constant bad reception, outages or general crappness leads me to called the Chorus customer (don't) care line in Limerick to be told they know about the problem (have a team working on it / or are dispatching a team urgently) and whats the point of my call, they already know.

Heh, I now have them refund a days cost of subscription each time we get an outage. They do it to, so I'm not AS pissed off as I used to be.

I made an official complaint to ODTR (who are a bit hit and miss at times). And Chorus sent out a pre-typed letter saying they were sorry and they are upgrading so please bare with them.

Now, Its been bad service for the past ten years (when it was CMI) so its takes a long time to upgrade.

    UNTIL TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Chorus are in my estate in Celbridge upgrading ALL of the cabling to some big thick lines, I was talking to one of the engineers/installers and he was explaining how it could hold all sorts of "really neat data" - broadband ! He started looking at me funny when i started to drool, some pigs began to fly over, and the ground started to get cold (you know, from Hell freezing over!)

So I can see the cabling hanging outside (they're working over a number of days), but its an impressive thick cable. And its flirting with me, the bitch! :)

Now I can assume they have to sort out the persistent problems, and I furthermore assume that they don't see the point of now upgrading to the latest lines if they expect to at some stage.

I'm thus hoping that they are going to use this extra capacity. I'm HOPING they will!

And to be honest, I don't mind the higher fee of use, if its just a stop gap measure, I'll be happy. I'm expecting a charge of €60pm just for internet alone!!!!!!! bloody Eircom.

I intend to ring Chorus during office hours tomorrow and ask them about it, I'll keep you all posted!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before anyone gets too excited, Id like to point out to newer readers of this forum that this is what chorus tell everyone and anyone who asks them for broadband. I dont want to sound too negative, but do a search for chorus on these forums and see what you find:/

Chorus told me 2 years ago that my area would be covered by PowerNet "within 18 months". Don't hold your breath.

PowerNet may not be exact the same as cable broadband (the method of delivery is different), but we're still talking about the same company here, and I doubt they've changed.

Just rang Chorus and had a chat with a really helpful guy there....dont worry they will weed him out soon or turn him into a useless gob****e.

Anyway , as some of you may be aware the trial is currently running in Clonmel , Thurles and Kilkenny - it's a 512 up / 512 down stream service , no limits and seemingly really good TTL and PINGS (the guy actually knew what these things were!)

The plan is to roll it out after this where they can...this is where it got a bit akward :)

.....I asked about Navan - No plans , no idea not a clue...actually apart from the pilot area there was no other info available.

Now as I see it , this is one good way for Chorus to win back customers from Sky so I know from a revenue protection point of view they HAVE to do this....

    Lets live in hope :)

    Dustaz-- that it exactly...

jesus H christ -- i swear if i had a euro for every thime chorus said that i would be able to offer everyone here 2gbit ADSL for free..

two words MY ARSE...chorus have to do it to save money-- i bet you heard that from an engineer -- i heard that 3 years ago 3 from them and it was imminent then -- august testing, september rollout -- 2 weeks, 2 months -- latest is january for you...I SWEAR, almost there..going well...oh and by the way one of your channels will be showing a football match tonight (filmed with hired unique ex-porn cameras-- overused and the focus doesnt work) instead of discovery...

1 other word - BS...i will believe it when i see it (ok 9 other words then)

ONLY FAILED MANAGERS FROM eircon CAN GET EMPLOYED AT CHORUS...look at the state of their website FFS...what a laugh

who designed it -- what a laugh....

when i read these things about a company like chorus offering the latest (THE LATEST) technology in ireland -- i piss myself laughing at their website design...i mean cmon... dodgy second hand car dealers or what -- 'honestly govnor, 1000 miles 30 years old, 1 lady owner, honest, you can trust me -- philty phil, the name, adsl the game......'

so they put down cable, it dont mean they will ever get around to actually using it. They came into my estate well over a year ago and dug the whole place up. At the time i thought it was to try a fix their crappy picture because it was getting worse on daily basis. Anyway after talking to the guys putting the stuff down I found out they were putting more digital cable down so as to increase what they had. Still nothing has happened here. I do have digital which is so crap. The picture is almost as good as it was before they decided to do digital and by signing up we lost one or two channels only to gain discovery and a bigger bill. I have been onto them alot since about the internet thing and keep getting the same thing. Problem with rollout still in testing, mast has been blocked etc. Regarding the mast they said they were trying a wireless internet thing at the time so i have no idea.
Funny enough, we were actually offered a 24/7 connection through cable connection running at 56k digital before chorus even came along for 20quid i think. This was of the cable company before it came chorus. Why i didn't get it. Well there was a cap of, get this 100mb in the deal and each extra mb was 20 pence. When i contacted them then they thought this was a really good deal and that no one would pass it. When i told them I download over 100mb every couple of days they hung up. Times are changing with chorus but not anytime soon.
And isn't chorus powernet and completly different company seperate from chorus. Well thats what i got from talking to chorus to told me to ring the other company powernet

A friend of mine bought a new house in Celbridge in 2000. Even though it was a new installation, they still installed just a one-way capable system. Picture quality was very poor. Assurances were given at the time that, because it was a new estate, it would be capable of cable internet.

there ya go-- a new technology frontier for chorus...and jesus they aint even putting down the cable right in the first place!

god they are so amazingly crap..it is scary

So I've been onto Chorus.Apparently Digital TV has been in the area for some time, news to me I can tell ye!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who told you that.I was on to them today to order digital tv after seeing this post and was told that-

"Digital TV wont be rolled out in Celbridge until September at least" After September their subscribers will be offered a Phone line and Digital TV service for €36(?) per month. The phone service is 64K line using an aerial on your roof.

So It seem like Chorus are still number one in the customer service stakes.Telling me something totally different than Ciderand Havoc.

what did i tell you...an engineer told me that the line was digital...chorus, dont know how to spell digital....it some type of peculiar finger to them...certainly one they are used to giving their customers...
