New software for backing up dvd's onto cd-r's

    I thought at first it made em into Video Cds .. not too sure what it does though... as i cant make a DVD on a CD .. you need a DVD-RW to do that ... strange.

    All it is is three products bundled together:
    Smartripper
    DVDx
    VCD Easy

    All of which are available separately from places like doom9.org - along with other software that may do a better job

    (and to answer Winters' query: yup, all it does is make a VCD / SVCD / DivX - I hate the use of the term "Back up" when it does nothing of the sort)

    It copies and compresses the DVD data down to AVI or something and then burns it as a VCD.
    I've seen a couple of films copied with this process and the quality is shite compared to DVD.

    There was a thread (somewhere) on boards.ie about how to do this some time ago (maybe 6 months ago).
    Try a search for the thread because some good links were given for free software to enable you to copy DVD to VCD (actually it rips the DVD to your HD as AVI, burning the VCD is handled by Nero or whatever).
