I'm here listening to Anaal Nathrakh.
    Enough said.
Check out the song "The Supreme Necrotic Audnance" to see what I'm on about.

I'm sure Ruaidhri will have some severely heavy **** to suggest.

Myrkskog are pretty damn extreme also.

Anyone suggesting Slipknot will be banned. :p

Mudvain (spelling?) was more noise than I could possibly take in 3 minutes. Horrible.

    Slipknot!:p

Other than Nile, rather pathetic efforts so far!!!

Electric Wizard are thought by many to be the heaviest band on earth. They're great - stoner/doom metal at it's very best (worst?). Look out for a tune of theirs called "I, The Witchfinder" - 12 minutes of the same 5 chords - drop-C tuned - slow and forceful in it's delivery - genius! :p

    right as always Angelwhore :D

ok the most extreme metal are as follows(in no peticular order):

Cryptopsy (check slit your guts ..vocalist for this track was called lord worm.nuff said :Dhttp://mp3.com/cryptopsy )

Nile (not to brutal but extremly fast, Check out Chapter for Transforming into a Snake http://mp3.com/nile )

Meshuggah (like geting your brain smashed out the back of your skull with a slice of lemon wrapped around a gold brick. Check out War www.meshuggah.net )

The Dillinger Escape Plan (see Meshuggah :D,Check out 43%burnt or The Mullet Burnden http://mp3.com/thedillingerescapepl )

Gorguts (just plain weird..they are trying to break down the walls of music from the inside  check out the carnal state )

Martyr (one of my favourites, just when you thought you had heard the heaviest **** on the planet along come these guys and blow you away :) mind blowing technical stuff. check out warp Zone http://mp3.com/martyrsite )

[edit] oops! almost forgot Burzum (shame on you Angelwhore for not mentioning him/it [/edit]

Desecration have some insanely heavy stuff. But I agree with the Nile comments also. Heavy yet provoking. Can never do any wrong with a bit of Deicide either.

actually, in my youth i always thought that testament hada song that rocked.
at least i think it was testament, its so long since i listened to all that rubbish.
something like braindamage, and it was usual metal stuff, nad then it just goes into a really heavy riff for about 5 minutes.
    good stuff.
im not sure i count death and doom metal as heavy, more as just noisy. although i always liked paradise lost, but then again to be heavy it doesnt really need to be the same 3 chords played over and over again very slowley. some people seem to think if you headbang in slow mo its called heavy.
    oh well.

always thought Naplam Death were pretty heavy, without resorting to a gorefest ala Cannibal Corpse

BTW Came across a band called Cattle Decapitaion (I think) recently. Seemed to be causing a bit of a fuss with their artwork and antics. www.google.com

The whole discussion is a bit pointless though. Could probably record something ridiculous at home with insanely fast drums + guitar, growl into a mic and then detune it by an octave and call it the most extreme song ever. Couse it'll be ****, but still extreme.

    Nile (Any song)
Morbid Angel (Opening of the Gates, Dominate etc.)
Dying Fetus (Kill Your Mother Rape Your Dog, Skullfukked etc.)
Cannibal Corpse (Hammer Smashed Face, I Cum Blood etc.)
Obituary (Cause Of Death, Chopped in Half etc.)
Fear Factory (All the stuff off Soul Of A New Machine)
Dimmu Borgir (Alot of their old songs eg. Behind the Curtains of Night)

Thats all I can think of right now.

For once I agree with you. I think (IMHO) Obituary, Dying Fetus and Cannibal Corpse suck monkeys.

But I chose them because they do produce some heavy ass songs. That's what this thread is about ain't it? I think out of all of those bands I listen to two of them full time (being Morbid Angel and Fear Factory). The others I'd listen to when I'd be looking to listen to something different.

    Leprosy album by death?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 722 ✭✭✭Drunk pirate

Killswitch engage are good n'heavy. Cheack out "My Last Seranade" Or "Lifeless To Lifeless".

Meshuggah are one of my faves. Try "New Millenium Cyandyde Christ" Or "Future Breed Machine". Very strange riffery (don't try play thier songs the beats and **** are mayhem).

I hate canible corpse but in all fairness they are heavy. Cant recomend any songs.

Pantera another fave. Try this song called "Hard lines and sunken check" or do what everyone else will recomend you and get "Walk". both brill.

Metallica are qiute heavy too. I dont know most heavy ones but most on the black album are heavy. If you have and justice for all "blackenned" and "harvester of sorrow" are great.

    ........i'll shut up now........

Judging by some of the replies, if you heard Anaal Nathrakh, you'd **** yourselves to death. :p

sorry but metal bands just dont scare meh :)
if ur talkin extreme tho there was some band called [minus] was featured on Napster a while back, they're probably the most extremely self-pitying whiners I ever heard; think Radiohead with the volume turned up plus a lot of shouting.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,719 ✭✭✭Ruaidhri

TBH AngelWhore Anaal Nathrakh are not that extreme. musically all they are are black metal with extra distortion and burzum style vocals.

well i suppose it's all just a matter of opinion of what's extreme and what's just wanna be's (i'm thinking of marilyn manson here) who try get a hard edge to their sound but have no stage presence to back it up (you have to remember metal is more a live thing rather than a studio effort, metal bands ALWAYS put up a way better show and sound way better live, rather than in the studio)

they're probably the most extremely self-pitying whiners I ever heard; think Radiohead with the volume turned up plus a lot of shouting.
i'm going to presume they were emo metal (where nu-metal was angst,nu-metal is more "nobody understands me") and yes it probably was CRAP.

again the level of mis-understanding and hatred most metallers have to go through because of goths and nu-metallers soo frustrating :(

    well that's my 2c

They have some really quite heavy songs... I'll name a few even though AW will be laughing to himself... "The Great Southern Trendkill", "War Nerve", "Suicide Note Pt. II", "Hellbound", "Strength Beyond Strength", "Rise", "Use My Third Arm" are all as heavy as you'll hear from a non Black / Death Metal band...

As much as they may deserve a mention, this thread is eight bloody years old!
