I've had tto clean up a load of **** on the board just now.
No bannings as of yet, but I'm going to be handing out a few tempbans if this ****e keeps up.

Yes, well that's the difference between a good laugh of a thread, and spamming the hell out of the board.

"Skinniest Singer" was good enough to post in, but when you get a whole ****load of others like "10 singers with bluest eyes" - "10 Worst threads in here" and so on and so on... It's extremely tiresome, and that's not what the board is for. Wanna make jokes? Humour board is just a click away.

Another note is that nobody complained about the Skinniest Singer thread. But when the whole board got clogged up with so many of the same stupid threads, I got sent a wave of reported threads, and a few PMs to ban whitewashman, logic, robbo, and all of them. That makes things a little different.

So far nobody is banned, but there's a warning.

I think a valid point was raised with those spoof top 10 lists.

Any of the so-called "serious" top ten lists usually degenerate into horrible arguments, points scoring via obscurisms and a general handbag fight. Surely from looking at VH1, those CH4 top ten programs and "I Love 14 minutes 37 seconds Ago" on BBC to know that this whole genre is dead on its arse?

Thats not for you to decide, Robbo. Valid point or not, spamming isn't the way to go about it. If you have a point, you can make it like anyone else, and post a serious thread about it.

Looking over the Top ten Metal Guitarists thread, I can't see any kind of handbag fighting, degenerate arguements or anything. But you must remember, that's what boards is for; having discussions and arguements about things. And specifically, the rock/metal board is there for people to discuss and argue about rock and metal, and that's what they're going to do. And as far as I can see, on the best guitarist thread nobody has gone out of their way to flame anyone or say "No! He sucks! You're an idiot!"

And if a small number of users want to spam the board because they think that the genre is dead on it's arse, then I've got to do something about it.

If you honestly think your funny, or clever saying "Oh no! Satan McHellpants from Lucifer's Pressure Cooker is a way better guitarist!" and other such parodies every time you post, then I've got another thing for you. Bottom line is that the board is there for the users to discuss, and if a few people decide to spam the place because they don't like the genre, they're going to get their threads locked, and get banned.

This isn't an open debate on the validity of the rock/metal board. The admins saw call for it, and there are many users who post there regularly, so it's not for discussion. If you don't like it, or think the genre is "Dead on it's arse" then that's you opinion, and there's many other boards you can post to. Understood?

Hang on, the board is *there* to discuss Limp Bizkit and Korn (among other things). Its not there for people to parody it.

One is genuine (if a bit crap) discussion on topic, another seems only to be inflamatory derision.
Are you *really* concerned about the rock forum's level of signal to noise or are people just having a go at the metallers to get a rise?

I can tell you right now DeVore that the above posted by WWM is a load of horse shíte. He seems to love giving personal comments on what other people may think about certain bands also.

The meanings for these threads were to spark off arguements outside the rock/metal genre. Thats why he created more than one thread because he didn't expect the first one to be humerous to the metal fans. I think it was nothing less than a spamming mission by WWM to get some cheap thrills. I've seen it being done many times before and this explains why I do not find WWM humourous nor tolerable.

well I'm trying to be level headed and I do see both sides of the argument.

However theres a lot of people who get on to me and are angry because they got trolled hook line and sinker. Now, trolling is funny when you are the troller but I end up having to deal with the unmitigated shíte that can hit the fan afterwards.

Now, this is funny once in a while but lately everyone seems to be doing it and I'm beginning to think its a really unwelcome direction for boards.

PI, Humanities, Politics and various other boards (usually the contentious ones or the boards where people feel strongly about things , ie: Metal) are attracting more and more trolls.

Meaning more and more annoyed (if dumb) users = more work for me and a less friendly place for newbies. (Dont go there Boston, I'm beginning to think you are the biggest troll of all).


You see where I'm coming from? they dont go crying to you they come crying to me and I dont want the aggro.

Yes, I fully understand what you are saying which is why I didn't say anything in any of the spam threads or in this one until now. I didn't really expect WWM to give an innocent plea to all this spam. I feel its just unacceptable especially from a mod.

but i have to admit, pornapster is the funniest, along with gunn4r, becuase neither of them will relent in the slightest over anything they have ever said. you challenge their views, and the will attack immediatelyt. now if thats not an incentive to give someone a good dose of some-uppence, then i dont know what is.
and to be honest, you'll find that at least i put some good thought into most of my trolls. i like to think of myself as the thinking mans troll.

i spend most of my time posting and being helpful or discussing one thing or another. a very small percentage of my posts go on trolling. the threads usually become overblown and melodramatic for some reason

im not going to apologise for starting up three threads with silly titles in the metal forum. it is one of the ones i read regularly. and i have no problem with it. sure, there are a lot of people there i think could do with being sat down and introduced to other musics, but there you go.
personally i think anyone that has to post on the admin forum complaining that someone is taking the mick out of the quality of posts on a forum really needs to get out more, but there you go.

A couple of decent level headed mods should be well capable to sort out troll type posts, now i only know offhand of around 2 that do there job, why the hell is this being posted in the admin section, first report it 2 the mod, then if you feel an injustice has been served on your complaint take it up (hehehe) with the mod.

After all that if you still feel you`re being unfairly untreated or that the mod is inadquate, post it in the admin section(shouldn`t even come to that)

I have to deal with everyone who thinks trolling is funny because they've seen Amp or you or shinji or bubbles doing it. Amp has forsworn blatant trolls because of this even.

I disagree about the mods not doing their job. WWMan and AW dont get on. You know what, I can live with that.
So AW was careful not to delete/ban WWMAN for fear that all sorts of commotion would result. Which lets face it, it would have.

I have no problem with a mod banning another mod, a mate of mine or anyone on boards. So long as they can show that there was justifiable reason for it. Hence the Recycle Bin where things can be sent for later perusal by the admins.

Trolling is tough for mods to deal with because they have to be sure it is a troll first. For example, I'm wondering if Boston is who he used to be... do I
1. ban him?
2. leave him?
3. Confront him?

If I get it wrong a person gets cut out of boards because of my paranoia, if I dont act someone is free to wreak havoc on something I've created.

Its a complex issue and I would ask people not to be a troll or to feed them for all our sakes.

There is an ignore feature there. Use it.

on another note, id like to point out that there is a difference between trolling and playing devils advocate.
metal board was a troll. i still fail to see how someone can be offended by three posts in three days, but there you go.
but a lot of what you would deem as trolling is not.
just becuase i argue with someone, does not mean that im trolling them. i do in fact have my own opinions that i put forward sometime, just becuase a lot of people dont like them doesnt mean they are wrong, or they are bad, or that im saying things just to cause a commotion. so while pornapster will say all i do is troll and take this piss, actually i think you will find that a lot of the time ive tried to discuss things with him only to be told that he is pornapster and he is right all the time. so now i just tell him hes wrong and gay.
