Listen here... I live in the countryside, the town is two miles from my house. There are 40+ people in a one km radius around my house. And there's a lake taking up most of that space. Not one of them are farmers. We can get everything locally here too. Two miles to town for entertainment (eg. gigs, plays, football matches etc.). Theres a Statoil station within that 1 km radius where we can get stuff from the shop or whatever. Most towns around here are equidistant (usually 7 miles apart) with lots of houses along the road to keep us occupied. None of us have really thick accents either, usually the farmers have thick accents.

I'm really tired of this stereotype you label us non-Dublin people with. It really does get annoying at times.

relax man, I was only taking the piss.
Also where did I say anything about farmers, you brought them up not me.
But if you are gonna compare stats:
I live in a housing estate with 300 houses. On average 3 people a house, so that's roughly 900 people, we'll say 1000.
1000 in one estate, you have 40+ people in a kilometre radius.
Not very far from Dublin city. Where, well, I'm sure you know what's in Dublin city.
Local shop, in a 1km radius there might be 6 newsagents, and there's a shopping centre. 2 GAA teams, about 3 soccer teams, 4 pubs, cinema, swimming pool, 4 secondary schools, 3 primary schools, and it's a 20-30 minute walk (depends on how slow you are) to UCD.
    I live in the suburbs.
So, although you may not live in a totally rural area, it still doesnt really compare.
Not ever going to be a fair comparison of course.

Oh, what about all the stereotypes you have of us dublin people.

Yup... it ain't really a fair comparison but as I said I live in the countryside just outside a town. You see it doesn't matter where you are, if people live there, there is always going to be facilities there to provide for those people. So there is no need for those culchie/bogger/muck savage stereotypes unless you know what youre talking about. I'm not pointing the finger at you but there are a few others who are generalising this "culchie" thing to the rest of Ireland as opposed to Dublin.
Oh, what about all the stereotypes you have of us dublin people.
Haha... well as I said I only use them as offence when I am being stereotyped. :p

Culchie - Anyone Irish from outside Dublin. Period.

It's not really an insult per se - Just a tag that you get for smelling vaguely like damp old newspaper.

Now run along and weld the exhaust back on to the rusty Golf Diesel out in the yard.

As for WWM, the small brown furry muppet that he is - I am actively seeking is expulsion from the country and his banishing back to whatever penal colony from he escaped from.

I was exiled from Dublin to Cavan a few years ago now.At first i hated it and vowed to return when i was grown up.But Im now at that age where you decide to stay at home or move away and Im conflicted.I love Dublin(theres a bigger proportion of better looking women for a start:D though Cavan has its fair share too)-but the rent is atrociously high, and besides all my friends are in Cavan .Im not sure where Im going:(

Northern Ireland thinking Dublin is backwards... how do you work this one out. I know people from Belfast and dont think this at all, even though they do slag the less populated counties as being sheep farmers.

Obviously you cant slag somone from Belfast(or most of the bigger northern towns) as being a culchie, but Dublin has far more to offer than up north, its a sectarian state ffs. If I heard a Belfast person say "Shor, Dublin is backward, so it is" I would be very confused at how they could think this

As for Dublin vs Country. The Dubs have it here I'm afraid. The country is seriously sh1t, although Dublin is NOT New York, Paris, London or Tokyo so dont act like it is.

And Pornapster, you live in Shercock right.... :p Sorry but I know this town and its 90% Hillbillies FACT. I seen in another thread you were describing the pubs in the town as "brilliant".... ...that says it all.

Lets face it the country is **** and Dublin is the pick of an average bunch. I intend to move out(maby not for good) but theres far better standards of living in other countries.

Also what do Dubliners think of people who actually live in towns and "cities" ie. Cork "city"
    Limerick "City"
    Galway "City"
    Dundalk
    Waterford

    Are these culchies???

Imagine Ireland as a horse's ass......Now isn't Athlone in the centre of Ireland...kinda says it all. LOL

P.s I Hate sterotypical boggers/Rednecks/culchies/yolkels and dislike Dubliners who think they live in Tokyo....The IFSC

Oh yeah and you have ALOT of Nike air max, tracksuited, stripey jumper/hoody, gold jewelery wearing young people in EVERY town. ie. Dundalk, Drogheda. Thats not exclusive to Dublin. Culchie is definatly a state of mind though.

Sorry but my main point was at Northern Irish people thinking Dublin is backwards???

Are you serious?? Firstly places in Tyrone are just as backward as places in, say, Roscommon.

And Belfast, come on its half the size of Dublin and full of nutters.
In my experiance Belfast people think Dublin is half full of poshies and half full of spides(skangers).

In Dublin the "poshies" are scared ****less of Belfast "Loike, Ooh my god, can they not just, loike, get on, you knoow" and the skangers think it would be "a deadly bouzz foighten dem brits oup deeer"

Smug Dubliners really annoy me. Dublin is nothing special, just leave Ireland and visit any city and see that there's a world out there.

You get the same rubbish with Londoners going on about "Northern Monkeys"

I don't live in Ireland but if I did I'd move to Galway as it's a far more preasant place to visit and is far nicer.
