http://www.firmware.fr.st - all your firmware needs.

If you follow the instructions to the letter you should have no problems, but there is the possibility of buggering your drive, if a power failure or something happens during the flash process.

i flashed my 10/40 pioneer dvd about two years ago with a region free firmware some guy from poland hacked.. still working perfectly.

so as long as you get the right firmware, there's virtually no risk.

I downloaded DVD Genie thinking that it'd be the answer to all my problems.

Unfortunately, it only works at a software level. Most new DVD drives have hardware checking now too, and will count down (usually 5) the amount of times that you change regions.

I found a firmware update that returned the drive (an LG x16 DVD drive) to non-checking of regions.

I think the link was that url provided by Stephen further up this thread.

I ****ed up the firmware update, lost the drive, shat myself thinking I'd knackered my MoBo too. ALl I had to do was reattempt the firmware flash (the cause of woe being a dodgy disk that had cocked up) and all was well.

you could try region killer. this like dvd genie only blocks the software aspect.

i used it and i got links from their website to a firmware site. works sweet now :)
