Im not sure if people who read the Laois forum have any Interest in games but still.

Where are the best places to buy console/PC games in Laois.

When you dont want to make the trip to Dublin where do you go?

Sometimes x-tra Vision, sometimes Ken Blacks/Smyths.

Or are there other good Places?

Talking Offaly for a sec (ugh) Im sure people will agree that OCS raelly sucks. Very Over Priced, I think it used to be a tenner (punt) for ten floppy Disks.

    Also, what about hardware?

Computers Now, lyster sq. in Portlaoise.

Can be a tad pricey but only place in Portlaoise.

Good for hardware...usually next day or so if you order.

Computers Now is the last place in Portloaise you would want to buy anything. Ridicolously overpriced. Ask them to order a piece of Hardware? "Sorry, they dont manufactur that anymore, BUT we do have a 220 Euro substitue that doesnt meet any of your needs".

    **** Dat!

Fortunately, Ibronx... *ahem* I mean Ken Blacks is yer only man :)

    Go to Kilkenny

    Go to Kilkenny

I do believe he was asking for places in LAOIS.

Last I checked, Kilkenny wasn't in Laois..

and Ken Black sucks. Never has any good PC games.

I would not buy games in Dublin (and I live in Dublin), as far as I'm concerned you get ripped off buying games in this country full stop.
    Buy from www.play.com

I'm from Kilkenny and I don't know why some of ye are recommending coming here for games. We have 3 places that sell them: Compustore (overpriced), Gamesworld (they have **** all pc games, all console stuff) and "The Computer Centre", who usually have a crap selection of stuff and bad pricing.

    why thank you.
Only took me 2 years..unlike others...I used to know...
It has more than Computers Now does.

For a boy who lives in Portlaoise, you obviously haven't been in Computers Now in a while.

Buy Online Ryo. Prolly the best bet over all.
We can argue the best place to buy games till were all blue in the face and it wont help matters

I know of 2 chaps here in Portarlington who will have his pc shop opened by (hopefully) October-ish. Their prices are generally sound and they'll be selling anything PC wise (including custom pcs hurrah!). They're still seeing about games suppliers so Ill have to get check on that prices and such on them.

True Games are far too expensive overall.

    Just an example,
A PS2 game used to cost £50 almost everywhere.

When the euro came in, shops converted the price straight.
    (€63.499998)

All was well untill (cant remember when I first saw it) they upped the price to 65. That didnt last long, soon it was 70!.

We were assured prices would not change, we would not be overchared. Looks like we were.

    Or can someone explain this?

Online is probably best for hardware, although the portarlington hardware shop sounds interesting. (Hope its not like OCS)

At what point have I said that Kilkenny was in loais? I mentioned Kilkenny as an alternative when Ryo asked "When you dont want to make the trip to Dublin where do you go?" Simultanously I was also answering "Or are there other good Places?"

At no point in this thread have I said "Kilkenny is in Loais". Apart from there now. Please get back to the topic :)

Games are too exspensive Ryo, but theres f(_)ck all we can do :| Or is there?

OCS, I know its not in Laois but I said there games (PS2) were expensive compared to other shops.

Today I saw Deus Ex for €60 in OCS.

Im almost sure it would be 70 in any GAME store.

It dont stop there, there were games for under 60 also, mostly crap games but games nun the less!

It was a while since I even looked at the games there (fear of Horrendous prices) but they seem to have cleaned up there act.

As for hardware, they still s*ck

€40 for a 16bit sound card, ive seen such for €16

There will be a mass loss of pigs due to aviation accidents bfore laois gets a good games shop.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 958 ✭✭✭Mark

Gis a URL if they get a site done Mark.

    Will do
Today I saw Deus Ex for €60 in OCS.

hehehehe HAHAHAHA BUHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!! Hoot!! 60 ****in euro! I seen it countless times for a fiver on pc. Thats just disgraceful.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,348 ✭✭✭Ryo Hazuki

Would rather buy it on PC anyway, UT engine is jerky on PS2.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,348 ✭✭✭Ryo Hazuki

I did work experience there, fair enough some of the stuff is dear but its a walk in shop.

    I think 256mb sdram was 99euro
Considering its 60 euro for 128 in PC WORLD thats not bad.

As Kaimera said If you ask them to order stuff they always have it the next day, unless the delivery people screw up.

They do repairs as well (if you left in your PC in the last week or so I probably fixed it)

The people who work there are really sound.
And the PS2 game prices are pretty resonable, and often a far better deal than GAME etc.

From my point of view I have nothing but Praise for the shop.

Forget the shops, Ken black is the biggest rip off I've seen in years.
Check out CDWow.ie it nearly always beats ALL the shops hands down.
I generally save about 15euro on a console game by going with them.
Plus they post free and it will fit into your letterbox.
They only do limited PC games :(:)

You might find play.com to your liking. I thought mammies were the only ones who bought games in Ken Black.

Cheers for the tip but I still think cdwow.ie is better, Prices are in euros and from the comparisons i made just slightly cheaper.
Add in the factor of not knowing the exchange rate I would get on my credit card and Cdwow comes up trumps.
Plus you don't need to create an account.
