our school is fag central. we get non-stop slag for being rockers. i get the most for some reason, from this one boy, if he says 1 thing nxt year ill break his fvckin nose!! the fascist nazis in our chool wont even let you grow ure hair! it has to be short (but not too short) and it cant be dyed or spiked either! our schoiol is like 90% raver 10% rocker. its ****ed up the amopunt of slag we get. i mean, getting insulted non stop for liking a different sort of music, for not "txtin" people all the time and for headbanging is ****ing ridiculous. what are you schools like, and any advice?

    WHAT THE F**K!?!?

This is the ROCK/METAL forum, dips**t.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 953 ✭✭✭superconor

yes i know. its about us getting slag for being rock/metal fans. im asking you "what is your school like" i.e. - do you get slag for being rock/metal fans.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 722 ✭✭✭Drunk pirate

Whats the deal with everyone going crazy just coz one guy made a mistake anyway he's right it is after all it is a ROCK/METAL section.

It's the same with my school 90% Rave/pop. 10% neutural or metalers. It is really gay. Rockers don't go around saying to popers or ravers "It's gay the way you look like robots when you dance", 24/7 all the time I just don't know why the get so offended becouase were different go's to show how much intelect people have. But the best thing to do is egnor it.

Slag em back and it makes it worse. Best thing to do Is when they slag you just look at them up an down and smerk...kills em inside :). Grow your hair if ya want ,they have no right to form your look. If they do the must like you.

My school aint so rough, most of the fag0rs are pussies anyway. any little prick that does slag you can easily be ignored or beaten up. i have never been bullied cause of liking different music to the majority.

but just cause you feel they are being total **** to you dont act the same back, cause that just makes it worse. be open minded. you know that the music they like is absolute sh1te but u dont give a fvck. they do, thats what makes them fvcking losers (but if your school is FULL of scummers or whatever then u cant really be helped :( )

yeah when i was growing my hair i got slagged a bit, but ignore it, the end result is worth it :D

all that slaggin **** should stop by the time u get to 6th year, im guessin your in 1st-3rd year, the numero uno place for obnoxious fvcking **** and mad-lads who like nothin better but to feel big.

p.s. this is thread should be moved, but i dont know where..............

There's nothing wrong with this thread... It should stay where it is...

I'm delighted to say that my old school had only 5% Rave/Dance fans, 5% Pop, around 50% Rock (being Foo Fighters, Feeder etc.), 5% Rappaz, 25% Nu-Metallaz (Slipknot lovers in first and second year), and 10% Metal (Pantera, Metallica, Slayer, Sepultura, and believe it or not... In Flames).

I get some slagging at times but I always catch them out with a counter. They try to say that metal is only noise and that the musicians can't play. I just say give us an example... I can give you an example on why I think your preferred music is shít... That usually shuts them up. If not I just punch them. Most of them can't even play instruments anyway.

Why do I feel superconnors post is going to be used as evidence in court?

Really man try to chill the beans...listen to some Beethovan and Wagner between the noisecore:)
    our school is fag central

    That's highly intellignet....really it is...

People may be morons but no need to use that kind of phraseology...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,719 ✭✭✭Ruaidhri

    advice?

well i can say this:my school(when i was there) sucked. this is not something unique to you(or me),it just happens there is nothing you can do.
in my old school i was the ONLY metaller in the whole school. there was about 5 nu-metal kidz(but they dont count TBH) and to make it worse i was a death metaller.
so superconor, just deal with it.i mean you seem to have it handy. and if the ravers annoy you, just dont listen to them.IGNORE them,it's not that hard.but you should not choose your friends based only on the type of music they listen to
Why do I feel superconnors post is going to be used as evidence in court?
LOL :) deny all evidence :)

any wonder you get slagged? People aren't good/bad people cos they music they like - they just are.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,287 ✭✭✭thedrowner

yup, exactly BB. i was one of the few rock fans in my school and people wouldn't slag me for wearing dog collars *cringe* etc, nor did i slag people for their choice in music, we all just got on with it, it didnt really matter.

last week, at the 02 concert, a group of....pop fans saw me cheering for turn and started saying really loudly 'that band were crap, weren't they', i just ignored them.
if people go out of the way to make a big deal out of someone liking different music to them, they're being narrow minded and i get more satifaction from not rising to the bait then rising to it.

Thats a class ben folds five song, you have quoted there, thedrowner. best song on that album. we all went through that sh~t in school. wait till ya get to college and the same people who were takin the proverbial all the way through school, suddenly want to talk with ya and the funny thing is you will want to talk to them aswell despite everything coz all of a sudden you realise "fvck it, life is too short to hold grudges"

    Thedrowner, you are completly right.

If people don't like your music, who cares? People have a right to like what they like (even in the case of little poshers and nu-metal heads, they havn't a clue what their on about:mad: )

Indivuality and different musical taste make the world far more interesting than if everyone liked one genre.

And I really was suprised that Turn played O2 in the park alongside Six and Ronan Keating....

But kind of subversive all the same....;)

Yeah, just wait until you get to College dude(ette). Then you will really come into your own and rise against the raver oppressors and crush them under your steel toe boot. Or maybe you'll just hang out with your own crowd and never the twain shall meet.
The bad part is, the whole school thing will just have to be rode out. You WILL get flack because yer different (be it music, hair or whatever), its just a matter of how you deal with it. If you are really into your music, then saddo comments from ravers and the likes shouldn't bother you. After all, the average raver will listen to approx. 10,000 "bands" in their lifetime, each of whom will have approx. 1 "hit single" and then dissappear into obscurity. Whereas, you'll probably like about 40-50 bands who should be around for a good while, unless they're cack.
Can't help you with the hair thing though, a lot of schools are trying to enforce this $hit rule to make the school look better for propective students and their parents. They tried that whole "neat hair" thing in my school back in the day; one of the guys got himself a ballhead, totally shaved, a few started to grow theirs and mine just lost the plot and went curly for a while. Oh yeah, and when I started to shave....I stopped shaving and began a goatee instead.
But seriously, if the ravers are really winding you up, go to a nightclub where they go, get tanked up on booze and then wait for a semi-decent tune to come on (something with lotsa bass drum in it) and then hit the floor beside them...literally!!!!!! Give them socks for as long as you can until yer thrown out. I've done this a few times, it was great craic if you can get a few mates to come along. We used to call it "pinballing" because basically you get some anemic-looking ravey boy in between two of you and you just hop off him like a pinball on the bumpers of a pinball table. YOU WILL BE TURFED OUT FOR THIS THOUGH SO BE PREPARED FOR THE INEVITABLE.

Hmm... This is a whiney, muppety thread that barely has any relevence, and is sheer 100% flamebait. But I'm gonna leave it for now because of the intrest. But at the first sign of muppetry, it's going down the toilet.

how lucky was i. about 60 odd% Rock/Metal listeners. the rest pop music etc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 953 ✭✭✭superconor

ok, a nice responce, firstly, i have no problem with peeps like ing different types of music.

[QUOTE} you should not choose your friends based only on the type of music they listen to
i dont. i find that while a lot of dance peeps seem to only talk about txtn people, whos going with who and cars, me an my frends can write sketches, music, talk about polotics, classical music, all sorts.
one of my best friends listens to dance music, and doesnt like rock, but he doesnt tell me "rock is just wahwahwah" like the rest of the ones in my year. (its mostly my year, im going into third.) ok, now some aggreeances. (?)
    That's highly intellignet....really it is...

People may be morons but no need to use that kind of phraseology...
sorry deco, ill replace that. i dont mind.

our school is full of narrow minded people.

there. :) (not saying fags are narrow minded, but these people are)

    wearing dog collars *cringe*
my frend gave me a studded bracelet one lunch time. i wore it to next class, and instantly some asmunches wer going woof woof at me. i mean it was around my ****ing wrist!!!

After all, the average raver will listen to approx. 10,000 "bands" in their lifetime, each of whom will have approx. 1 "hit single" and then dissappear into obscurity. Whereas, you'll probably like about 40-50 bands who should be around for a good while, unless they're cack

yes really. i mean, most dance bands have 1 hit single then dissappear, most dont even make albums, just compilations. iron maiden, going 20+ years, ac/dc, a lot too, yeah rock bands are great and i mean you dont see DJ alligator or scooter teeshirts do you? ">dance band< world tour '02 shirts" either?

jeez that was long, a well. thanks for the help. im going into third year now and ill prob try and ignore them, or beat the **** out of them. thanks my friends! slán!

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,136 ✭✭✭Pugsley

My school is about 80% ravers/pop 18% nu metal kiddies (they all happen to be complete w@nkers aswell :/) about 2% rockers....then me, i think im the only guy who listens to bands like maiden + metallica in the whole school :(
(Pantera, Metallica, Slayer, Sepultura, and believe it or not... In Flames).
lucky git is all i can say...

And if you think being 'picked on' for being a meteller is bad,im a metal gamer, and i get it far worse. I get some near every day (most kids do it for a week, get whacked {compliments of me} then bugger off) so dont think that being a meteller is the worst you can get.

I actually found that I least liked the rockers of my old school. Why? Because they were whiny and so "tragic" and "misunderstood". <sigh> I love rock. Hence I am in many ways a rocker. But I refuse to let that define how I act and who I'm allowed socialise with. And yes there are a lot of assholes in school, but if you play along with them <as in not cause a fuss, be friendly, while not trying to change too much for them> the problems tend to stop mostly. Of course, I look funny which made things SOOOO much worse. ;p

    Unreal...
i mean, most dance bands have 1 hit single then dissappear, most dont even make albums

Thats like a raver saying "well slipknot suck, so you're music is crap".

Have you ever listened to Orbital? The Orb? Chemical Brothers?

All going years and years now, all have lots of albums behind them. Ironically I am wearing an Orbital "Insides" long sleeve as I type this...

Like any genre, the stuff you hear is mostly the crap commercial stuff.... as a techno-music lover between Scooter and Slipknot, I choose Slipknot. Honestly. Darius? dont make me vomit.
Just about all the MTVesque techno-music is ****...

Ask yourself this... when they DO play metal... is it the kind of metal you like or the commercial Slipknotty stuff?

SO WHY DO YOU PRESUME THAT THEY PLAY THE BEST OF TECHNO.

I dont think I've ever really heard any of my top ten fav techno artists on MTV etc....

Anyway, to the point at hand. Ignore them and dont call anywhere fag-central on Boards again.

Personally I dont box people anyway, I listen to Iron Maiden (yes I'm old) and Korn (who are really rather good :) ) and several other metal bands, but I'm as likely to listen to the Blues, gospel, techno, acid house, indie or old-timer stuff like Aretha Franklin and James Brown.... So where in all yer little dumb percentages will you put me?

Interesting topic (which does belong here as its aimed at the community of Rock/Metal fans) I think you need to box people less and just ignore it... certainly violence wont help, trust me!

    DeV.

Mine would be 30% Hip hop.
    30% Indie.
    20% Rave.
15% Rock n roll in general
    5% Heavy Metal.

Anyone who likes punk, grunge, funk and other modern american music styles is categorised a "smelly rocker" by the Ignorant bulk of the student body.

yes a good point, and one i have made before. you cant judge any genre but the crap they dole out on MTV..not the (mostly)crap that makes it into charts. i mean ffs TOOL made it to 17 in the irish album charts.they got NO radio play over here.

Saying that though Metal is an underground genre historically. so you can see why it's a bit of an upset to us that we get bombarded with a type of over-produced "metal" that has very little thought and/or skill that is usually apparent in the other genre's of metal.eg korn has SO much angst in their music is sickens me(but that's just my opinion)
SO WHY DO YOU PRESUME THAT THEY PLAY THE BEST OF TECHNO.

i've always believed that "ravers" have to put up with thee same **** as us,they have so many trendies jumping on the band wagon.but they get subjected to more massacres in the charts than us :D

good point actually - I think we tend to forget about the seriosu dance acts which aren't as known as the one-minute-chart-topping-wonders

Same with Metal bands - I suppose it calls down to lack of knowledge being the route of ignorance.

Yeah, there are some other acts out there that are cool too. Prodigy, Leftfield, Massive Attack amongst others.
Let me hear y'all "the brothers gonna work it out" "the brothers gonna work it out"

    exactly
my closest friends are into pop, but if i'd hadnt approached them on the basis that because they listen to pop, they're **** heads, they wouldnt be my closest friends. and id be one narrow minded idiot. even more so than i already am ;)

devore and others who defend dance music here are completely right. any rockers here know how annoying it is when people say all metal music is singers roaring their heads off even though they never heard the bands they are dissing and it is similarily just as annoying when fans of dance and rave have to hear the same.

At this stage i would like to point to the soundtrack of the film Spawn which sees rock and metals biggest names collaborate with some of the biggest dance artists. Dance has a lot to offer the future of music with artists like aphex twin breaking into new ground, similarily tool show that rock/metal will also have a place in musics future and ther two forms of music should embrace each other instead of constantly bickering.

I would also like to point out to hobnail monkey not to take this too far...this is in actual fact a rock/metal board not one promoting dance music:D

the orb aren't techno.. they're electronica.. *grins at angelwhore*

i didn't get much hassle for my taste in music in school, mainly because I didn't listen to much music in school :) i was too busy doing my homework before class ended, but once I started growing my hear and bought my leather trenchcoat..

    *then* the fun started :P

    LMFAO!

    *It Isn't Fuggin' Techno!!!*

But I seriously hate when this Rock Vs. Dance rubbish comes up.
I mean, 90% of all metal fans will not diss The Prodigy.
It's quite ignorant to think that people into electronic music listen to the chart rubbish.
DeVore pointed it out pretty damn well.

But don't worry, you'll grow up and realise there's more to music than one side vs. the other.
The underground is generally good stuff, whether it's underground metal, or electronic.

Hey Jilt, nice point about the Spawn soundtrack, only thing is that the movie was complete Pants!!!! Although, Matrix soundtrack was a nice mix of dancy dancy stuff and industrial.
I do know that this is a *Growl* Metal board and I am a man of much metal. I just appreciate other bands for what they can do. I'll make a few references to soften this blow for you.
Massive Attack - can sound like NIN at their milder moments, a la 'Hurt', 'The day the world went away' & 'something I can never have'
Prodigy - some of their heavier stuff reminds me of Static-X and a little bit like Godflesh too.
Don't forget the fact that when you say that this is a rock/metal board, the board also encompasses the likes of techno-rock, Industrial and Cyber Metal whose genre includes the use of samplers and Keys etc. So you can't blame someone who likes bands like Rammstein, NIN, Devin Townsend and Godflesh for liking dance music really!
I'd much rather mosh though because I have 2 left feet on a 'dancefloor':D

    o

im sorry if i have offended anyone. yes i have heard the orb and the chems, and yes i can listen to there stuff, as long as its not too wooshy an spacey. but seriously you have no idea what this school is like. i mean these people only like dance music that is in the charts and the clubbers guide an "livin it large" ibiza stuff. and i dont have a problem with their music, i have a problem with them, they slag us for not having mobiles, for liking "wahwah ****", as it has been called to many times. my friend calls these people "footballers" which is really really unfair. i wer fotball shirts, am i someone you hate? i ask. but a lot of people up north see that they have to wear celtic shirts/rangers shirts because they are catholic/protestants. i mean (this nearly makes you cry) but if i wore a rangers shirt to P.E in my school, i would get the **** beaten out of me, every day, and teased even more. its that sad.

i will never ever call anywhere fagcentral again, and i am sorry if i have offended anyone.

    peace, conor.
