I'm doing CW019 - Computing with Options in Computer Applications & Commercial Programming.

I'll take the option in programming in 2nd year then onto Diploma and Degree.

Hopefully the course is alright.

Was up there today for "freshers day", nice college.

Just wondering about the computers, whats the story on the usage of them? Can you download stuff or just browse the net?

Yeah you can. Just don't get caught doing anything dodgy on the computers or they may suspend/remove your account.

They wont do anything to your account, if at all itll be a suspension for a week for maybe lookin at pr0n.

Best thing for it, is to get yourself a 250mb zip drive and a half dozen disks. The net connection there is 4mb afair, its quite fast at times.

if needs be ask someone like myself mordeth or stephen to download stuff for you to somewhere *fast*

We have access to nice fast UK boxen, where u can get 500kb/s from in the college.

Do they have some sort of tracking system where they can see who did what on the internet, or is it just if one of them walks by and sees you d/ling illegal stuff?

Everything goes via the proxy server, which they can see stats on a per user basic. As you actually log on to it.

, but the upside is that i was never asked anything nor did anyone catch me doing anything. So if you dont get caught and have a few smarts in your head, you will be fine.

I have him and D. O Sé for maths. Had them both last year too.

Connecting to IRC from IT carlow is very easy - just use an irc client that supports HTTP proxies - recent versions of mirc do this. Find the proxy options in your client and enter the address of the ITC proxy (proxy.itcarlow.ie , port 8080) and IRC will work fine.

As for the computers, you can get away with a lot. Last year I used to download simpsons and family guy episodes (70Mb each) and nothing was said. Just don't use a com[uter that has a screen facing the technicans office and keep an eye out.

Note of Warning:

Keep them fsckin idiots kieth and ivor out of compsoc.

Man it had to be the biggest load of bull **** the college has ever seen.

Oh and someone with a beard, get to it and setup a fscking netsoc ffs.

We had a netsoc 3 years ago with a nice pIII 450 with slack on it. Do the same ya fscking hippies.

I vote Mordeth for CEO of Itcarlows Netsoc.
