Saw figures earlier today somewhere that indicate that IE is now at 96% (NS at about 2% - just what you've found - and Opera and the rest at 1%)

Meanwhile Netscape are still releasing upgrades for v4.xx

    Game over guys

What do you think the UNIX world is using? They still have a market (can you have a market when you ain't selling anything?!), it's just a whole lot smaller :(

Just watch your stats when the new AOL client (based on Mozilla) goes final boys.

The only reason IE is so popular is because it comes as standard with windows and not many people are arsed installing a different browser.

Let's be honest guys, it's really a mixture of both. Netscape is not the only alternative. Opera is only free if you want to get rid of the ads. Microsoft acted anti-competitively. AOL acted idiotically. Et cetera.

Like I said though, watch it drop soon. Fast.

IE is a lot better browser then Netscape to build web sites with. It does display the HTML better.

Netscape is ****e cos not tooo many people upgraded to 6.0 and then a month later they release 7.0 ... thats pritty stupid.

Everyone that uses a pc knows how to use IE and thats why it is most popular.

IE is excellent, exactly what you want in a browser

Personally I hate netscape (any version)... there's way to much in it and it takes way to long to startup

I build websites with text editors myself

It actually forgives coding errors more, but is that a good thing ? The newest Netscape and Mozilla are far more standards compliant.

IE is the easiest to use and therefore the most popular

Opera 6.04 is wroking fine for me at the moment.

    Hardly ever use IE anymore.

In Opera 6.04 (which I use), if you go to "File", "Quick Preferences", and "Identify as..." the default setting is "Identify as MSIE 5.0" (as opposed to Opera, or Mozilla).

So perhaps there are more Opera users than you know?

Magic Monkey is correct. Opera and some other browsers can configure their headers to whatever they want. By default some pretend to be IE.

So it's not a real valid test of who's viewing with what. Although at a guess I would say that MS have market share.

yup...ment that. I use Dreamweaver to build my sites...that way i can see what im doing once i do it and not have to save and open IE. IE does show the html a lot better then any other browser and that is one way its sed so much. It is easier to use and only takes a second to load. Netscape takes at least a min to load cos it loads the java console and goes through the activation thing......well, with 6.0 it did.
