My debs was in the Old Darnley, in 2006. Loved it, great food, everybody served no bother, nice nightclub. Of course, there were fights, a scumbag bottling people, bathrooms overrun with blood and coke, hospitalisations and people's parents threatening the hotel with lawsuits or somesuch. So the school is barred from there now, pity. Went to a different hotel the year after for my actual debs, was terrible.

Thats insane! We just had a bouncer at the door and one member of the prom committee at the door (10 mins each) for the hour that people arrived, so only people in the year (+ a date) could actually go in

Any tips on best places for Debs dresses?
I'm in Dublin area and avoiding anything insanely costy!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,194 ✭✭✭Corruptedmorals

Hmm nope, back in the day they didn't check for ID whatsoever, we were all 17 and we all got served. I don't think the ticket said anything about ID really. The debs the year after that I was almost 19 and my passport wouldn't fit in my bag so I left it. But you had to show ID to get the stupid stamp thing, loads of feckers who'd just turned 18 having to buy my drink for me, I was raging. Happily they abandoned it after the meal and served me.

Err no they don't have the power to do that. To regulate it, they usually use a stamp system.

Try Debenhams.. you mightened get an amazing dress but they're reasonably priced.I've heard of people getting dresses for 350e which I think is ridiculous

    Rochestown Park?
    Any one know anything?

    Got my dress today.
    Nearly €400 :o
I know it's ridiculous but for me, it was perfect and I hate shopping for things like that. So I took it as a sign from God.
However I'll be paying for everything else.

Debs: More trouble than they are worth half the time.

I did TY so I got 2 Debs.. well I've had one, the next is in about 2months...

    Last year: Ardboyne.
Twas pretty good. I didn't eat much of the meal, not my taste.. The others seemed to like it well enough, and they had a veggie option..think it was a fruit salad though ... Odd. Band and music were great. Think I was home by about 6ish.. Trip was 30-45mins. Breakfast rolls were available, and tea & OJ.

We've gone to the Ardboyne for years but this year's committee wanted a change.. So this year we're going to the Headford Arms in Kells. Sounds like it'll be pretty glamorous.. red carpet and champagne fountains.. Hope it lives up to all the hype. Wasn't too expensive at €85 a piece. But I'm kinda regretting getting the second ticket.. Atm I'm on my own :(... But my dress is amazing! :D I'll see what happens hehe..

Anyone been to the Headford Arms before?

Well I haven't been there before but that's where my debs is taking place. On their website under Debs package there is a video of what they offer. It's also very lax on Id so hopefully it won't be a problem for my date (she's a year younger than me). My tickets were 50€ each, as my school's 6th year tuck shop is funding it as well.
I'm also going to my friend's debs in the Red Cow in August which I haven't heard great views about but I'll see it for myself.
Suit wise I got a tux for €199 in blacktie (to buy, as I'm going to 2 debses it's cheaper to buy than rent). I decided to wear a silver waistcoat and tie, instead of a bowtie. Silver is supposedly neutral to whatever dresses my dates are wearing, so I guess that works.
Weirdly enough I'm actually kinda looking forward to the debses (in case you didn't realise already :pac:)...I was dreading them at the beginning 2bh.

Jayzus the place is real popular for debs. 3 years ago they served anyone and everyone, however this may have changed. Prices for drink were reasonable, the photos were well taken, nice little room (instead of hereded into queues at one end of a dancefloor), the eating area had a great layout, rectangular tables instead of circular- it just looks better and it's friendlier or something. The nightclub part looked pretty new back then..lots of wood and stuff. Good dancefloor though. Theys topped serving bang on half 2, lots of dickhead debs hotels stop serving at half 12 or before it..brilliant smoking area too. Great night.
