The Spirit of '77. Never accepted in amongst the punk elite, The Stranglers still managed to create one of the quintessential albums of the punk era with their debut disc "Rattus Norvegicus". Doorsy keyboards, a bass sound that sounded like it was gonna kick down your front door, Hugh Cornwell's laconic sneer and Jet black's no-frills drumming all bled together to form a catalogue of fine songs, weird lyrics and bucketloads of attitude. If all you know about The Stranglers is "Golden Brown", do yourself a favour and tune into the album Archive this Thursday at 8pm, where, for the princely sum of nought euro you'll get to hear studio versions, live versions and demo versions of the tracks that make up the record, as well as a b-side or two from the single releases associated with it. If you think Limp Bizkit, Marilyn Manson and Linkin Park are tough, The Stranglers could kick the bejayzus out of the lot of them and no mistake. Rattus Norvegicus on the Album Archive. Oh yeah, and it's got "Peaches" on it too.....

    Regards

    Rob
