    Hello Everyone,
I am finishing a PC I assembled myself from parts bought on Ebuyer and Komplett.
I want to connect up the DVD Drive so as to enable 5.1 sound.
I have Power DVD software to decode the data.
Currently I am using an Asus A7V333 motherboard with on board 5.1 sound .
I bought an Audigy soundcard but I could be waiting on it for a bit.
I am wondering do I need to connect the DVD audio to the SPDIF in on the motherboard or can I send the digital data through the IDE cable ?
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks

No you don't. I have 2 drives in my machine and only one of them is connected via the audio cable. My DVD drive is not connected, but the movies play fine with sound.

DVD audio goes through the IDE/bus. Only CD-Audio uses the cable really, and even then, if you're using WMP7 or Win XP, you still don't need the cables.

    Thanks alot guys.
I am running WinXP Professional .
Saves me having to buy a SPDIF cable as they are very hard to source.
    Much appreciated.
    Thanks
