    GIGSMART: OTRANOME, OZ and POLAR
The folk at GIGSMART – the musicians’ collective – have put together tonight’s show to raise funds and awareness for Concern’s Afghanistan Appeal. One year on from the horrific events in New York City, tonight’s show remembers and recognises both the victims of the World Trade Centre attacks, and also the innocent victims in Afghanistan: with Bush clandestinely annihilating the country from the air, homelessness, poverty and starvation have all escalated – issues that need serious attention. Tonight’s show sees sets from OTRANOME, OZ and POLAR and is followed by a DEMO DJ SET from Gigsmart’s Niall Stynes – if bands want to hear their demos through a professional PA system, bring ‘em in!! Admission €7.30pm – a noble cause.

    THURSDAY 12th (7.30pm)
    THE MUSIC plus guests
Leeds cosmic crusaders THE MUSIC are five urban hippy star children who make rock 'n' roll sound like the greatest and most natural idea in the world. They channel the raucous spirit of Led Zeppelin and the feral majesty of The Stone Roses into a sprawling hedonistic funk jam that sounds like it was recorded at sunrise in a crop circle during the summer solstice of 1973. Few bands have sailed these lysergic seas with as much style and conviction as The Music. But don't just love them for their brilliant records. Love them because they sound totally and gloriously out of step with everything else right now. Let's hope they always do. They make their Irish debut at TBMC on Thursday 12th September. Be there! 7.30pm.

    THURSDAY 12th (11pm)
SCREAMADELICA: DJ MADOUVA & DJ NUTCASE (a lazarus soul)
DJ NUTCASE (aka Brian Brannigan) came to the collective consciousness last year when he released the glorius "A Lazarus Soul Record" under the moniker A LAZARUS SOUL. A total grower, the seven-track EP opens with the sweet synths of "Only Say The Word" and continues with an air of frustration and restraint...staccatto rhythms, shady soundscapes and intense lyrics...before closing with bleak resolve of "Sanctuary" - "...waiting for the wind to come and push me...into the arms...of what can only be forever". Beautiful. Produced by Joe Chester, A Lazarus Soul Record featured various members of Ten Speed Racer doing the do. After the recording, the band evolved with DJ MADOUVA (Fin O'Leary) taking over on drums, and Joe Wilson, Tony "Romeo" Hegarty and Bryan McMahon (aka Future Kings Of Spain) taking over guitars, bass and keys respectively. New material is on its way - we swear. DJ MADOUVA does the do at the Music Centre, likes tapas and plays the drum yokes with Alan Kelly's superb THE LAST POST and Fin's latest monster: FIVE MINUTES. Expect delicious noise, pint bottles of Bulmers and big smiles.

    FRIDAY 13th (7.30pm)
16 HORSEPOWER with special guest CONWAY SAVAGE
16 HORSEPOWER is a Denver, Colorado-based trio whose brooding, god-fearingly religious songs are reminiscent of the gothic tones of Nick Cave and Gun Club. Vocalist and lyricist David Eugene Edwards sings his tales of sin and redemption against a stripped down but powerful acoustic backdrop. The grandson of a travelling Nazarene preacher and a committed Christian, Edwards grew up listening to Old Testament tales of damnation and hellfire, and formed 16 Horsepower in 1992 to explore his fascination with these religious demons. The Haw EP was released in 1995, the title track a doom-laden blues characteristic of Edwards' apocalyptic obsessions. The acclaimed debut Sackcloth 'n' Ashes was originally released in America in 1996. The album featured the fiddle playing of Edwards' soul mate, Gordon Gano of the Violent Femmes, which, alongside the band's deliberately old-fashioned instrumentation (bandoneon, banjos, stand-up bass, accordions), reinforced the archaic nature of Edwards' lyrics. The band's third album, Secret South, was released in March 2000. If you still need convincing, support comes from the legendary Conway Savage (keyboardist with Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds), who is touring his new album Nothing Broken. Doors 7.30pm, adm €15.

    FRIDAY 13th (11pm)
IN MOTION & NOVA 94.7FM present
NOVA 94.7FM and MOTION present a live broadcast from the Music Centre on Friday 13th featuring (in the venue) SUNIL SHARPE, JAY CISCO and GAVIN JONES, while in the bar, expect sets from RONAN O, PAUL CONROY, BEN CARVOSSO and DARA LYNCH. Doors open at 11pm, with the show being broadcast live on NOVA 94.7FM. Adm €10.

    SATURDAY 14th (7.30pm)
    CONCERT FOR CARRICKSMINES
A concert to raise both awareness and funds for the campaign to protect CARRICKMINES CASTLE from destruction as a result of the extending of the M50 Motorway. The evening is hosted by Kila’s RONAN O’SNODAIGH and will feature performances and contributions from: LIAM O’MAONLAI, URSULA BYRNES, CLANN ZU, CLAIRE BONASS, LIAM MALONE and other members of KILA. Admission €10.
