Banning question

When a user is banned is it just the username that is banned or do you ban at an ip level ?

I ask because if bonecollectors ip was banned , a number of other boards user would also be banned as they go through a proxy and would share the same ip.

Or am i totally of the mark ?

We can do either.

Bonecollectors useraccount was discontinued in order to stop him continuing to cross post spam into boards that werent for that information. (he seemed to be working his way through boards systematically).

I'm talking to him in mail about it as it seems he was just excercising misguided enthusiasm for UTV's latest offering. Unfortunately, the Films, Motors and other such boards are not interested and information in the wrong place = spam.

If he's agreeable to abide by that principle and NOT create cleanup work of that magnitude for the admins I'm happy to unban him.

We can ban entire ISPs btw, or any level of IP range. For example we've previously banned bits of limerick to stop a specific muppet from posting.

ps: Bonecollector is reinstated as he understands why its a "bad thing" to spam.

aside: I also support UTV from the sidelines and want to see an Eircom liquidation sale more then most but there are ways and means to do it, and so far UTV have a 100% record of doing it right, lets not ruin it for them.
