Moving in to newly built house with no TV setup in place...

What are the pro's and con's of installing each digital service?

Is there such a comparison available anywhere?

    NTL...don't go there!
It costs more, it's less reliable, there's far less channels and interactive content on it.

Sky has its drawbacks (they took off sky news active yesterday the feckers) but I pay 27 euro a month and I'm pleased with it, never had any problems with it at all.

    Just a pity sky doesn't give UTV/C4

A fairly exchaustive review of NTL Digital is available on http://icdg.boards.ie . There's comparisions with Sky Digital too.

To sumarise - NTL Digital is cheaper if you are also planning to get NTL analogue installed. It has the UK terrestrials including ITV1 and Channel 4, they are all in the "right" places too (EPG #101-108), access to analogue BBC TWO for when those regional variations get in the way, can easily be moved between different cable points, and has a quite nice EPG that has its advantages over Sky (such as being able to get "More Info" for any programme on that day from Search and Scan, or Browse as NTL calls it, whereas with Sky you only get the current programme info with the "i" button, otherwise you have to enter the full EPG). Oh, and there's full EPG access to RTE and BBC radio stations, yes even Five Live!

But on the other hand, Sky is cheaper if you aren't subscribing to NTL analogue also. Sky has far more channels then NTL will ever have. It also has working (again!) interactive services such as BBCi, Sky News Active, Sky Movies Active, and judging from the activities of Sky this forthnight the full Sky Active service cannot be too far away. It has a full pay-per-view service that works properly (NTL has only four movies and the ordering system has proved to have its problems).

To sumarise, NTL good for multi-room (analogue!) viewing, good EPG, radio stations. Sky has the most TV channels, the best (the only!) interactive services, and a much better PPV service. Whether or not you plan to have NTL analogue installed should be an important factor, as it does make the total (Sky + NTL) significantly more expensive than Sky alone or NTL+NTL Digital.
