Well Forlán finally got his goal from the penalty spot last night against Maccabi Haifa. T'was very well taken indeed! Veron got his much awaited goals which will perhaps settle him down a little. He played well last night too with a goal and two assists (he got the ball back for Solskjaer's goal) one of them a great pass to Van Nistelrooy. Ricardo made his debut coming on from the bench, he looked good enough, he was unlucky with the goal though.

Overall I have to say it was a good game for United to get back on track and I'm pleased for Forlán and Veron who have lifted alot of pressure off their shoulders after the match. The goals that we conceeded were from mistakes by the defence, we'll have to look at that and improve on it. We didn't draw or lose the game so they weren't punished severely and we have the three points...

So after all that waffle, I'll start a poll... Do you think Forlán can start up a scoring run after his goal last night?

Do you think Diego Forlán can start a scoring run after his goal last night...? 22 votes

No doubt! He'll bag 20+ goals this season!

He'll only score a ten goals this season...

He'll only score one or two more...

He won't score anything after last night and he'll be sold back to Independiente...

IF he got a run in the team i think he would be a 10 goal a season type.
(and thats considering the amount of goalchances United create ... )

I dont think he's the 'prolific' poacher type, (eg Shearer, Cole) , and cant see him bagging 20+ a year.
Still, he's young, and ManU seem to think he's got a lot of potential.

Lads it was a penalty, wait until he scores a goal from open play and then we'll talk.

    Pornnapster - Being a 'Pool fan I feel I should throw my bit in;

Ricardo - When did he look good? Picking the ball out of the net was all he had to to apart from a few back passes.

Forlan was/is rubbish. He's not even scoring in the reserves. He obviously lacks confidence but a good striker like Micheal Owen generally comes back after 5/6 games and scores. If Roy Keane was on the pitch last night it would be 28 games no goals. His touch is dreadful which is usually an accurate sign.

Veron was average. He layed on 2 goals against a poor team, for 28.1 million sterling you would expect a lot more that that. He gave the ball away at least 15 times with poor passing and jessy tackling.

The Red Scum are going down my friend.

united looked ok going forward...but were terrible at the back..as for the penalty...one word!...charity...If i was given a peno to take like that it would lower my confidence......

Forlan is still young,he has two good feet and he works hard for the team, that and th fact he never gets a full game will contribute to him finding it hard to score, when he does get going he's defo 10+ a season man.

It was still a pressure kick even if they were 4-2 ahead at the time. Forlán had something to prove which meant there was pressure on him. That was what seemed to be wrong with him... he didn't have any confidence when a goal chance came his way. He put it right in the bottom corner with a rasper of a shot, now don't tell me that it didn't help his confidence in any way. Besides, look at how many penalties Ireland missed in the world cup. You make it sound like taking penalties are easy...

Gills, you obviously weren't watching the game properly. Did you not see Ricardo's save when we were 4-2 up? That could have changed the game around completely if it had to go in. And it was no pussy assed shot either. And one more thing Gills... both Michael Owen and the Cranberries suck.

Ricardo: i think he was very unlucky with the goal that was conceeded when he was in net. He looks quite good. Barthez hasn't been looking great for me. Might just be me, but i don't really rate him very highly atm.

Forlan: I think he's a good player but his confidence is in the dumps. I don't think scoring a penalty will really up his confidence much. My brother was dancing that he scored, but i think wait till ge gets one from open play. Then his confidence will come with leaps and bounds.

Veron: Played quite well, doesn't matter how poor the opposition is, the passes like that are always hard to do. He did give the ball away a fair bit tho. Something for him to work on. He also seems as if he looses concentration at times. Was very happy that he scored tho.

Nistlerooy: Was delighted to see him score. Hopefully he'll get back to the kinda form that he had last season. Man U really need it at the moment.

O'Shea: another great performance from him. Mick o Mick plz pick him. Imo hes the best defender ireland has atm even tho hes young and relatively inexpererienced.

Man U as a whole looked much better going forward. At the back tho they still looked shakey and bigger teams will tear us apart. Blanc and Rio seem to lose concentration at times. That needs to be adressed.

My opinion as a United Fan

Ricardo: i think he was very unlucky with the goal that was conceeded when he was in net. He looks quite good. Barthez hasn't been looking great for me. Might just be me, but i don't really rate him very highly atm.

Forlan: Confidence again is his problem, I followed South American soccer so I have seen some of the goals he has scored and they were class, but if he cannot do it in the reserves then it will be hard for him

Veron: Did not convince me again, gave a great pass for RVN goal but gave away 3 passes before that, still not a ball winner, I thought he would kick ass this season, all I can say is that I remember Henry with Juve, he was lacking confidence and was crap, if Veron can do the same he will be top drawer.

Nistlerooy: He is a real workerf, top drawer player, never gives up.

O'Shea: I cannot praise this guy enough. He is definately one of the best young defenders at the minate. Why he is not in the Irish team is beyond me.

Man U : Still not convinced, Blanc is to blame for the 2 goals, he is rubbish, cannot see us winning anything this season. But never rule us out.

Yes he is a man of the future. im sure his first goal will boost his confidence somewhat. He`s a player i will be very weary of when United are playing Villa.

I think everyone, United fans and haters, are all pretty weary of Diego Forlan at this stage :)

    BeWEAR, take care! Indeed! :)

There's about as much chance of Forlan scoring 20 this season as there is of VanNistelroy washing all that grease out of his hair by next May!

    Funny how Solksjaer(sp?) does though?
The jury may still be out on Forlan, but I dont rate him all that much. He scored once in the World Cup, it was a good goal but that was all we saw from him.
He hasnt proved himself at all at Man Utd. A goal from the the penalty spot means nothing.
Michael Owen has only managed the same this year, and a goal from the spot is nothing compared to open play.

I'm a Liverpool fan myself, and Michael Owen is totally overated.
Europes best player he is not.
Although when he is on form he is really a great player.
    Forlan is nothing special.
I would play Ole Gunnar ahead of him anyday.
Impulse buy by Alex Ferguson perhaps?

Oh and what was Ferdinand doing with regards to that second goal? :o

Forlan = the new Andy Cole.

    Nothing special.

Floran: A goal from the peno spot doesnt count, as a liverpool fan owen hasn't scored a goal this season and neither has floran. Even after the peno floran didnt look like the relief was removed from his sholders

Veron: Donkey!!! ok he played average against maccibi but he gave the ball away to many times, managed to make 1 tackle and i do admit his pass was v v good, but remember thats in europe where teams sit back and let you play, In england you have the ball for 3 seconds the viera or gerrard will be hunting you down thats what veron hates and he cant play in those conditions.

Ricardo: was asked to make 2 saves since he came on and only made one. Bit hard to judge him on 40minutes or whatever he played and considering his defenders look like there stuck in quick sand when theres a through ball.

Nistlerooy: Took the goal well, but he is the type of player who ALWAYS snibbled when playing in the school yard.

Godamn, the guy got his chance yesterday, started ahead of Van N and was by far the worst player on the pitch, including Charltons wannabes.
