It is currently unclear what the new Nirvana release will be. There is talk of a single compilation album containing the band's biggest hits and 'You Know You're Right', but the original plan was to release a box set of rare and unreleased material.

the latter please. a singles compilation has already been done. i must find the new song tonight. is it good

it's class monk.....a little bit heavier than previous stuff and it's got all the cobain signature riffs and vocals on it.
made the hair stand up on the back of my neck.

What length is the track? It's not fun downloading bogus versions on a 56k as I'm sure you know

    Just head it last night...

It just re-enforces the status of Kurt.

The finished studio version of the track clocks in at just over three and a half minutes. A "best of" compilation, tentatively titled Nirvana, is expected by Christmas. No word yet on whether "You Know You're Right" or any other unreleased Nirvana tracks will be included.

BTW, for those will access to usenet, check out alt.binaries.sounds.mp3s.1990s for a nice Nirvana set called "Into The Black". Its got 6 CDs:

1: Ultra Rare Demos & Sessions
    2: Master Demo Recordings
    3: Paramount Theater, Seattle 10/31/91
    4: Reading Festival, London 08/92
    5: Last American Show, Pt. 1, Seattle - 01/08/94
6: Last American Show, Pt. 2, Seattle - 01/08/94, John Peel sessions 1990-1991.

1 CD is being posted a day, 2 CDs are there already. Reading Festival and John Peel sessions are from BBC master tapes, so I expect they'll be good quality. :)

4 words for ye all - oh my ****in god

ive been waitin for the studio version of this track for just over 4 yrs now when rumours of it first surfaced

"never speak a word again, i will crawl away for good"

    what a classic line

anyways - quick review of the song

vocals - kurts voice lacks the passion of previous songs...but when coupled with his subsequent suicide it adds and eerie feel to the track...his screaming of "things have never been so swell" (1.54 or so) is particularly good

guitars sound excellent as do drums....the 'you know your right' chanting at the end is a lil to long (almost a whole minute) and there's no kurt style solo :(
its also a lil bit over-produced/mastered
it sounds a little disjointed at times...like just after the first distortion kicks in....but as i listen to it now it keeps sounding better and better

that aside a great song - will it be a commercial success ?
the record company mentioned estimated sales figurers of 15mil+ for a box set including ykyr....i doubt it somehow, it lacks major mainstream appeal

having said all that its a class song, much better than the live version and i love it

this review is all over the place im just so happy :))))))))))))))

    Nirvana Forever....

Slightly off topic here - but does anyone know how much a Nirvana ticket for 'that date' is worth these days?

why don't you go ask sothebys? they have a rock n roll memorabilia auction coming up in the next few weeks and they'll be in dublin next week at their molesworth street offices evaluating gear.
but would you sell it? i mean would you? if you would then you shouldn't have had it in the first place

not quite sure what 'that date' is that you're referring to here ?

if you mean the 93 show when they played ykyr live (called 'on a mountain' then) then id imagine its not worth an awful lot...more that you paid for it certainly

or maybe your talkin about the last show ? which would be worth more to a nirvana collector

oh and by the way...nirvana fans are now speculating that the version of ykyr that has surfaced is in fact a discarded mix of the song - possibly purposefully leaked and that the 'real' and final mix of the song will only be available when the new nirvana cd is released (october/november depending on who you talk to)

with kurt diaries coming out (albeit apparently scanned and edited pages, not the complete set as id hoped) its looking like kurts theroy that music repeats itself approximately every ten years is true :p
certainly judging by the number of nirvana style bands (foo fighters, hives, vines, nickleback(or so they reckon)) i would say its pretty true

in other news, various radio stations have been goin nuts over this song...one american stadio played it over and over for an entire hour while taking calls from listeners giving their opinions

one station said they'd keep playing it until they got a call demanding they stop - then they'd hide in the closet and keep playing it :p

and for anyone who cares, here's my take on the lyrics

    YOU KNOW YOU'RE RIGHT

    I will never bother you
    I will never promise to
    I will never follow you
    i will never bother you

    Never speak a word again
I will crawl away for good

I will move away from here
You wont be afraid of fear
No thought was put in to this
I always knew it would come to this

Things have never been so swell
I have never failed to feel
    Pain (3x)

    You Know your Right (3x)

I'm so warm and calm inside
I no longer have to hide
    Let’s talk about someone else
    Steaming soup against her mouth
    Nothing really bothers her
She just wants to love herself

I will move away from here
You wont be afraid of fear
No thought was put into this
I always knew to come like this

Things have never been so swell
I have never failed to feel
    Pain (5x)

    You know Your Right (17x)

    Pain (1x)

btw, what'd you think of the song pornapster ?

Nirvana had scheduled a show for Dublin on the same date as Cobains suicide. It had been re-arranged however due to his collapse earlier in the tour. A couple of my mates have the original ticket still.

I had two but I returned them after Kurt's suicide and got my money back.
I was a penniless student then you see.
I have a photocopy of one of them though.
I still have my ticket stub from when they played the Point in 1992 though. That's worth a lot more to me.

Those Dublin tickets where going for a fortune a while ago...but its kind of wrong imo to sell 'em....

Just taking advantage of people with to much money.
