Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Ok, Regi and I teamed up to form SUPERADMIN-O-BOT and decided MYSQL's day had come. After about 30 mins of reading manuals and poking the database with a big schtick we found a query that SEEMED to be going a bit bonkers.

    We've indexed the columns it uses and stopped it from using temp tables... so far so good. Mysql is behaving itself and we have to see how we get on...

    One thing to remember is that we are suffering several problems, between routing to Nevada and the database issues so that makes it harder to track.

    Anyway, bottom line is that we THINK we've sorted it and you should see some improvements immediately...

    Ok we think we've made a big step in sorting out speed problems... there's a bit of custom code on the site that gives the last 10 queries. It orders by lastpost, but we put an index on lastposter instead of lastpost - doh!!

    We've put an index on the field, and mysql's cpu usage is down about 50% and ram usage down about 120 megs :D It goes to show that if a database gets busy, you'd better take care of your indices.

    Yeah, once we're happy we've nailed it we'll put all the toys back in the pram :)

    And before anyone posts the "Regi Says" card... it was my mistake while trying to optimise stuff that I indexed the wrong column. Hey, at least I was on the right track... I just fell at the final hurdle! :)
