    got this in a newsletter I suscribe to, thought it was fitting to the language forum...

    PRONOUNCED: caw oss dwit
    MEANING: Where are you from?

    PHRASE: Is as Meiricea/Sasana/Eire dom
    PRONOUNCED: iss oss mare-i-caw/sos-in-ah/air-ah dum
    MEANING: I am from America/England/Ireland

    PHRASE: Ta tu go h-aileann!
    PRONOUNCED: taw two guh haul-inn!
    MEANING: You are beautiful!

    Thought these might come in handy, you know, common phrases and so forth :)

    PHRASE: Is maith liom piobar a chur i chupáin tae.
    PRONOUNCED: Iss moh lum pyubar a ch(ch as in ach!)ur i chupawn tay
    MEANING: I like to put pepper in cups of tea.

    PHRASE: Áfach.
    PRONOUNCED: Aww fukk
    MEANING: However.

    PHRASE: Nuair a bhíonn an cait amuigh, bíonn na luch ag rince!
    PRONOUNCED: Noor a vee-un un kh(like in ach)at a-mwih, bee-un na lukh egg rinkeh
    MEANING: When the cat is out, the mice are dancing

    PHRASE: You leath leibeadáin ciúbaithe!
    PRONOUNCED: You lah lebbidawn queubaheh!
    MEANING: You dozy bollox! (lit. "You half idiot cubed!")
    (one of our teachers used to say it :))

    PHRASE: Ahh, tá boladh ait ón seomra sin. An raibh tusa ag suí ann le tamall, a bhromaideoir?
    PRONOUNCED: Ahh, taw bullah at own showmra shin. Un revv tussa egg suy (like see, but more undulating!) own (as in down) le tommall, a vrumadoor?
    MEANING: Ahh, there's a weird smell from that room. Were you sitting there for a while, ye who farts?
